It was constructed for the residents of Loharehri village by the Sultans of the Lodi Dynasty in the early 16th century. Dwarka now stands where the Loharehri village once stood.1] Located in a barren stretch of land between a residential society and a private school on Azad Hind Fauj Marg, Sector 12, Dwarka, at 28-35-58.95 degree North and 77-02-38.67 degree East. It was hidden by a large group of Peepal trees and covered by a thick undergrowth which seems to have aided in its relative obscurity. Read moreThe Dwarka Baodi Stepwell is a medieval structure in the heart of the crowded Dwarka sub-urban area of Delhi. The stepwell has now dried out but is in tip-top condition and no part of it is broken off or in a damaged condition. The Archeological Survey of India ASI has put nice fencing around the stepwell and also posted a security person with a neat little security cabin. The security person who also doubles up as a tour guide told that is it a Lodi era water harvesting method, so it easily dates back to 600 yr ago and some settlement from that period is also found nearby. The stepwell is a hidden gem in Dwarka Sector 4 and although the place is correctly placed on Google Maps the nearest landmark is the Gangotri apartment if you are taking verbal directions. There is a huge parking lot outside the Baori stepwell though visitors are very few. So the security person normally locks the gate from inside and I had to call him outside and requested to open the gate for some time. ♿ Accessibility Features: No=Ramp access. Its renovation/restoration is recently undertaken by Delhi Government but real restoration will complete only when it get water. Unlike Agarsen-ki-Baoli, Dwarka Baoli is very small and is surrounded by multi-story Apartments.
It can be reached by taking bus or metro: Sector 10/11/12 metro stations all are located within a distance of 2-3 kms. Follow Google Map, it will perfectly take you to baoli. It is being maintained by Delhi Government. One security person is put on duty. Children can be seen playing outside. Area look deserted.
Limited information is displayed about this Lodi Era 600 years old baoli. If you have seen other baolis in Delhi, then you will feel disappointed.
At least, Dwarka Baoli deserves a visit. You can stay here for 15 minutes. Ample free parking space...
