St. Cajetan's Church is said to have been modelled on the original design of the Basilica of St.Peter in Rome.In 1639, three Italians of the Order of Theatines were sent by Pope Urban VIII to the kingdom of Golconda (near Hyderbad) to preach Christianity. They were not permitted to work in Golconda, so they came to Goa on 25th October 1640& they began the construction of a hospital but the local Viceroy stopped their activities in 1643 and asked them to leave Goa in 1645. However their leader went back to Portugal to explain to the King, Dom João IV, that it would be in the interest of Christian religion if they were allowed to work in Goa together with the Portuguese priests. Impressed by the determination of the Italian friar, the King gave permission to build the hospital in 1650. In 1655, the Theatines managed to obtain permission to build the Church and also a Convent. The construction of the Church was completed in 1661.This church is half a kilometer away to the north east of the Se Cathedral.

St. Cajetan Church, also known as the Church of Divine Providence, is a church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Goa and Daman located in Old Goa. The church was completed in 1661 and is part of the World Heritage Site, Churches and convents of Goa. The church is in the form of a Greek cross and has a large dome with Latin inscriptions from the Gospel of Matthew on its inside. The Corinthian style facade of the church has four granite statues of Saints Peter, Paul, John the Evangelist and Matthew. The church has seven altars, with the main altar dedicated to Our Lady of Providence. The main altar is based on the one at Church of San Nicolo, Verona, and was ordered in 1713 by the Theatines under the patronage of Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. There are three altars on each side of the entrance, with the altar to Saint Cajetan is located on the right.

NO... this is not amongst the famous Trio of Old Goa.... Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and St. Augustine Church or Church of Our Lady Of Grace...this Church of St.Cajetan, popularly known as the Church of Divine Providence...is lesser known and less visited, but believe me, this is probably the most beautiful among all Goa Churchs and Cathedrals. Just 200 meters from famous Se Cathedral and beside Viceroy 's Arch... stands tall Church of St. Cajetan. Modelled on St. Peter's Basilica of Vatican City, this Church is a part of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Churches and Convents of Goa. This Church is the form of a Greek Cross...a large dome with inscriptions of Gospel of Matthew. This Church of Theatine Order is a marvel to watch.

St. Cajetan Church in Goa is an architectural masterpiece that instantly transports you to a different era. The stunning baroque design, inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, is truly captivating. The church’s white facade, intricate carvings, and beautiful domes make it a must-visit for anyone who appreciates history and art. Inside, the high ceilings and ornate altar add to the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. It's less crowded than some of the more famous churches in Goa, which allows for quiet reflection and a more intimate experience. A hidden gem that deserves more attention!

This tour of Panaji and Old Goa City begins at the port in Panaji, the Goa State’s capital. The Old City has a fascinating history that includes many international influences, and a few stints under colonial rule as well. You’ll visit the city’s Portuguese and Latin quarters, with time to stop into a few shops and do some window shopping as well. The tour’s highlight is the spice plantation and its grounds, filled with exotic spices – many of which are only found locally. The tour includes all entry tickets, lunch, air-conditioned transportation, and an English-speaking guide.

Beautiful and peaceful church - right behind the se cathedral, though you will have to come out of the gate to the main road to reach here. - the architecture is quite different from the rest of the churches of old Goa - the gate of Aadil Shah's palace is also in the same compound - very very peaceful church. - like all other churches, you are not allowed to take photographs of people or with stands. - though I didn't find any guides here, the staff was kind enough to tell some interesting facts like the the week beneath the altar or the vaults beneath.
