Nili Masjid — Attraction in Hauz Khas

Situated in Hauz Khas Enclave, New Delhi. Only the Prayer Chamber of the Mosque has survived the waves of time. Its facade is decorated with blue tiles which gives the mosque its present name. But that too is aged or damaged with time.T he mosque was probably build during the reign of Sikandar Lodi(1489-1517). By reading the inscription over its central Archway we come to realize that it must be built in the year 1505-06 AD. by Kasumbhil, nurse of Fatah Khan, son of Khan-i-Azam Masnad 'Ali Khawas Khan' . then governor of Delhi. This mosque is still used for Friday Prayers by the Muslim Community, and by few people for all obligatory prayers. There is big compound apart from Mosque where different plantations can be seen. NILI MOSQUE (KHARERA) - This plastered rubble built mosque is surmounted by a single dome over the central portion. The blue tiles decorating the facade above the chhajja has given its present name, i.e., blue mosque. It was built in A.H. 911 (A.D. 1505-06) during the reign of Sikandar Lodi, by Kasumbhil, nurse of Fath Khan, son of Khan-i-Azam Masnad Ali Khawas Khan, then governor of Delhi.
