My father adores this place, and so I decided to take him here for breakfast last week. They have a huge array of sandwiches, and being a lover of sandwiches I was in heaven. I had tried their Garlic Infused Spinach and Goat Cheese Omelette (8.5/10), Yalla Habibi Sandwich (8/10), Big Fish Sandwich (8.5/10) and Cold Coffee Freshly Blended with Ice Cream (8.5/10).
As evident, all the dishes were quite good, and if I had to pick 2, I'd pick the Big Fish Sandwich along with the Cold Coffee. The fish sandwich had some nicely spiced fish fillets still full of juice. It made the slightly dry bread perfectly moist resulting in a great sandwich overall. One would need to be careful not to spill all this juice out while eating though, because that's where the beauty of it lies. The cold coffee was perfect in terms of the texture, which was not too thick and not too thin. While I like my milkshakes thick, cold coffee needs to be thin enough so that it doesn't get stuck in the straw and you need to empty your lungs in order to suck the coffee out. They put an adequate amount of vanilla ice cream which makes it perfectly sweet. The other sandwich i.e. Habibi had chicken in it and was slightly dry. However the chicken and hummus combination was quite nice along with other Middle Eastern flavours such as beetroot pickle and labneh which lent a great balance to the sandwich. The omelette which was served with a toast cut into 2 and a salad dressed in vinaigrette dressing was good too. It had a good amount of cheese which melted in the mouth with each bite that you took. It was seasoned perfectly and I didn't even need ketchup or any other condiment to eat it with.
Overall while the food is nice, service is below par. The manager has a lot of issues where the attitude is a major concern. However, I love the vibe of the place and the great sandwiches, along with the other options available from the 2 other joints located together. Overall, a great time for breakfast, brunch or just catching up...
Read moreI cannot stress enough the importance of relying on a cafe which does not burn a hole in your pocket and yet, you would not want to compromise on the quality of the food. Big Fat Sandwich in Hauz Khas is one of my favorites in these aspects. Open from 11 in the day to 11 in the night, it serves delicious sandwiches at reasonable prices. With all this going for it, Big Fat Sandwich certainly has the potential to be your next go-to place.
AMBIENCE : We began our evening experience at Big Fat Sandwich which was curved in its layout and cozy and comfortable in its design. The interior is filled with beautiful wood panelling, floral touches and plush furnishings, and the well-lit space bestows the restaurant with a timeless intimate elegance. In a crux, the place is modern, understated, chic and comfortable.
FOOD: Following recommendations from the extremely friendly and attentive staff, we went for the suggested food items by Manager. Big Fat Sandwich truly lives up to its name with best sandwiches around the corner.
As for the cafe itself, this was spacious and well-appointed. Carefully designed, it was both intimate and social, with the acoustics being properly monitored to minimize any amplified chatter and clanking that often fills other establishments. This space in every way epitomized what a modern fine-dining cafe could aspire to look like. Not only was the food delicious, the service was also excellent – smart yet unpretentious. Big Fat Sandwich made for a lovely chilled out dining experience and also the prices were quite reasonable. The cooking replicated the quality at food– controlled, measured, precise and flawlessly executed. This is how a cafe...
Read moreNow wait a sec! What just happened? It was raining in Delhi and the roof was leaking in this place. A titanic drop just missed my sandwich and landed on my thumb holding the sandwich. Well that was some welcome! The menu is dull, there is no X factor to the food, it's very mundane and somehow I kinda regretted stepping my foot in through the door after a couple of bites of my sandwich. No offence but this Delhi and I know a couple of street hawkers who do a better job with their egg sandwiches while this was just a failure in terms of a sandwich place. Also towards the end trying to go through their menu and being fair to them we went for Dutch sponge cake and I am sure there wasn't any orange in the description but to my horror, one the sponge was pretty damn hard as if it was stale, perhaps a day or two old and second the orange found its way into the "sponge cake" which kinda took me by surprise. So it's ok if there is an orange tanginess to the sweet section but you gotta put it down in the description for someone who doesn't consider orange as having a sweetening taste. Felt completely cheated and in the middle of a pouring Delhi evening left still looking for something I hadn't found but luckily Diggin cafe which is very nearby turned out to be my saviour! A complete let down, didn't come to feel the interiors, on a pouring Delhi evening was looking for some coffee and a nice sandwich to dig into, wouldn't advice it to anyone who has a taste for the good Delhi...
