Wake The Lake': Reviving the lake back to its beautiful self.

United Way of Hyderabad (UWH), through its 'Wake The Lake' campaign is implementing Pedda Cheruvu (Khajaguda Talab) lake rejuvenation in partnership with GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation), adopted for rejuvenation by Wells Fargo. This lake is located in Gachibowli near Bio-Diversity park junction in Hyderabad. The lake surrounded by two educational institutions on either sides and hills at the outlet section and is free of any encroachments on all sides. This lake and its periphery is the only green zone amidst rising huge buildings and other civil establishments. UWH is reviving the lake by managing multi-stakeholder collaborations between Government agencies, citizen groups, corporates, volunteers and striving for creating a collective impact.

Lake rejuvenation work started in Aug 2018 and is divided into 3 phases over 3 years.

Phase 1 - Cleaning, De-silting, Jungle clearance in and around the lake

Phase 2 - Enriching the biodiversity and Improving the water quality

Phase 3 - Preserving the local ecology, flora, and fauna of the lake

Activities of phase 1 are taken up based on a rapid assessment along with asking competent agencies to prepare the comprehensive master plan and DPR for the lake.

As on date, in the last 8 months since this project inception, we have successfully completed phase 1 and are in the final stage of receiving the approval from the lake expert committee.
