Overbury's Folly is a historical and quirky landmark located in Thalassery, Kannur district, Kerala. The folly is a watchtower that was built in the 1870s by E.N. Overbury, a local judge. The folly is made of stone and brick, and it has a conical roof.

The folly is located on a hilltop, and it offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The folly is also a popular spot for photography.

The folly is a bit of a mystery. It is unclear why Overbury built the folly, and there are several legends about its origins. Some people believe that the folly was built as a lookout post, while others believe that it was built as a folly, or a whimsical building that was not intended to be functional.

Whatever its origins, Overbury's Folly is a unique and interesting landmark. It is a great place to visit for its history, its views, and its quirky charm.

Here are some of the things I loved about Overbury's Folly in Thalassery:

The historical significance of the folly The panoramic views of the surrounding area The quirky charm of the folly The popularity of the folly for photography I would definitely recommend Overbury's Folly to anyone looking for a unique and interesting landmark to visit...

Overbury's Folly is a picnic spot named after E N Overbury, a British Sub-collector. It is located at Thalassery. It is an unfinished construction, or architectural folly, that now serves as a recreational park.

E N Overbury had a plan to construct a picnic spot at the cliff near the Municipal Stadium. He could not complete it during his lifetime; however, the slope from the sub-collector's bungalow to the rocks below came to be known by his name. One can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the sea from here.

Today, Overbury's Folly has been renovated and redecorated as a tourist attraction. It is frequented by local people in the evenings as a place to relax. A seaside open-air coffee shop has also been opened on the folly.

Location: Thalassery, 21 kms south of Kannur. Nearest Railway Station: Thalassery Nearest Bus Station: Thalassery Nearest Airports: Mangalore(140 kms),...

Overbury's Folly—is a popular scenic spot in Thalassery, overlooking the Arabian Sea. The location is well-known for its coastal views, making it a charming destination for locals and visitors alike. Travel along the narrow road nestled between the Thalassery Mini Civil Station and the Municipal Stadium, and you’ll soon find yourself at the serene Overbury’s Folly. The limited parking space is an issue here, with parking available only for smaller vehicles. There’s an entry fee of 20 rupees for adults to enter the park. This fee was recently increased to 20 rupees. Generally, other places in Thalassery are quite crowded, but I felt the atmosphere here was relatively peaceful. While there are a few items for children like swings and slides, they don’t appear to be well-maintained.

**PLEASE DON'T LITTER** BE A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN ** A small maintained park area with good sea view, children's park and a tower to watch sunset from a good height. Entry fee of 10Rs for adults. Toilet facilities available inside. Shop/Cafe inside were closed, probably due to covid restrictions. Good thing is that its overall very clean with waste bins placed at every corners to avoid littering the park. Place gets crowded towards the sunset. Overall its a nice place to be alone and watch the sea smashing into the rocky coast, or have some nice time with your loved ones enjoying the cool sea breeze.
