Priyadarshani Park - unsafe for runners as dogs frequently run across running tracks Priyadarshini Park athletic track where one pays ₹15000 as annual fee to have access to the track has recently become an accidental hazard for all athletes and amateur runners too! In the last 2 weeks, runners , some of them participating at State and International level track and field events have encountered stray dogs running across the tracks during early morning and late evening training sessions. One of the runners who trains for running the Chicago, Berlin and New York marathon later this year almost missed falling last week as two stray dogs ran across the track whilst he was practicing and doing interval training and the fall could have been fatal ( photo enclosed) It has been brought to the attention of authorities and they have ignored it . Earlier today a senior citizen whilst doing a stride had a severe fall when a dog crossed the running track yet again and he broke his hand and has to undergo a surgery . The fees that PDP has increased year on year for practicing on the track and instead of providing better facilities and safety measures , it has become a place where more accidents are waiting to happen until the dog menace is curbed permanently . They can easily fence the area but is there a will to do so ? It is for PDP Management to answer . Children , youngsters , potential national and international level athletes , senior citizens come and train here . This callous approach by PDP can be fatal for someone’s lives and careers too! Priya Darshani Park; popularly known as PDP is located at Napean Sea Road and is an excellent park for all people - be it kids, teenagers, couples, family, friends or even for old age people. This park has an excellent location for walk near the sea shore - i.e. a jogging area right next to the Arabian Sea. It has one of the bests playgrounds offering a lot of free play and recreational activities. The ground are maintained neatly and there are separate areas for lawn tennis, football, athletic tracks as well as badminton courts along with a separate dedicated area with slides, swings etc. for kids. Many benches are put in the park so that people can sit and relax too while they are also free to sit in the green hilly lawns of the park. This park is pet friendly too. There is also a ridge on one of the sides which overlooks the athletic track and field where one can sit and see the events. Many schools hosts their sports events here.
