County Of Origin
Always saw it from the window of my car while taking a stroll on the streets of Bandra, never knew the parent version of this place was just there in my neighbourhood at Napensea Road. Desserts being my favourite, I was glad to visit the place. Very amazed to see how such a piece of art that this place is has been hidden in the heart of south mumbai since so long. Firstly the vibe of the place is so breathtaking, soothing, calming, a soul will not be embarrassed to make this place, its second home. Amazing vibes coming from each corner of the house, dim lights and the aroma of sweetness in the air of the house was a perfect place to spend my evening. Country Of Origin has a stylish vintage touch to it, along with the amazing variety and originality of the desserts makes it a perfect blend that I look for in a place. To my surprise, this place is everything I want. Starting with Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (yes I learned it right) is the Traditional Black Forest Cake with Cherry Brandy all the way from Germany! Hear some bells ringing when I say that? Missing that Childhood Black Forest Cake you had while you were invited for a birthday party in your kindergartens good old days? This Black Forest Cake is different. Mr Kiran has taken the pains to travel all the way to Germany to get you the original Black Forest Cake also known as "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte". Next up for us was the Red Velvet. Very well made, not too sweet, with the goodness of white cream cheese. I loved the way it was subtle to taste. Usually Red Velvet can be too sweet to eat up the whole block, but this one was so nicely made that I couldn't stop eating, am surely visiting the place again for this piece. The very rich and exotic piece at Country Of Origin, were the Mascarpone Crème Éclair and Dark Chocolate & Whisky Éclair. Éclair's have always been my favourite piece of dessert. Mascarpone Crème Éclair was my favourite out of the two since it reminded me a softer and a better version of Crème rolls. Dark Chocolate & Whisky Éclair is a really good choice for people loving Dark Chocolate, whisky making it even better. Next on the plates were our mini friends in shots, just the way I like it! Caramel & Butter Scotch Cheese Cake, I've always been a fan of Caramel Cheese Cake, when mixed with Butter Scotch was a perfect combination of rich creamy caramel with a nutty touch to your tongue, my personal favourite from the shots not forgetting perfectly made layers of Hazelnut Caramel, the bliss of Caramel in between the goodness of Hazelnut. Do visit the place for more flavours like Lemon Cheese Cake and Red Velvet Shots! For next on the menu is their very famous Country Of Origin Espresso Mug: It's not just any mug, A mug with Molten Chocolate Cake oozing the yummiest hot chocolate you've ever had. Getting hot in here? You also get to keep the mug as a souvenir for free. COO offers variety of Brownies, Muffins and Dessert Jars. Double Chocolate Brownie Intense Chocolate Brownie Hazelnut Crème Brownie & Espresso Brownie being my favourites ❤️ COO is actually very thoughtful for those loving em Gluten Free!! Heard right! COO has Gluten Free Brownies and Gluten Free Tea Cake and Cookies. Talking about the Muffins, tasted the Soft Centred Belgian Chocolate Muffin and the White Chocolate & Hazelnut Muffin. Muffins were really soft and filled with goodness of chocolate, especially the White Chocolate with Hazelnut essence blending righteously with White Chocolate tasted rich. Have it Soft & Warm. Last but not the least I was in love with their Granola Bars they had to offer. Very Healthy And Snackable. COO surely has something for everyone. Do visit the place. It's worth the...
Read moreWe went to C.O.O. at Nepean Sea Rd on 29 Oct 2024, and we actually go there several times a year.
We write today because our Granola purchase turned out to have a slightly opened aluminium foil 'safety' cover beneath the lid, opened just big enough for someone to be able to get a few pieces onto their hand. Some of its contents may have been poured out, but the other Granola jar seemed to be untouched.
We tried to call the store but it was past their operational hours. Then we recalled the attitude of the staff; the way they 'know' that their products are better than some other bakeries. Here are some examples of their disregard for customer service.
Example 1: We were excited to see Truffle Mushroom Quiche on the wall menu and we discussed what others items to buy while standing in front of the Cashier. Only AFTER we talked about that menu and asked to buy our choices, the Cashier eventually said, "Oh, those items are for order only, by phone first." They didn't bother to warn us that the menu behind the Cashier is actually for online orders only. (You like what you see? Go home, then order by phone/online.)
Example 2: After the food menu snafu, we tried to soothe our disappointment by ordering a cold coffee/mocha drink from the menu. Again, only AFTER we discussed what drink to buy and we pointed to our choices, did one of the staff (this time not the Cashier) told us that no cold drinks are available. My wife and I both responded: "But it's on the menu! Why put it on the menu?" That same staff just reiterated what he said earlier.
Yes this was all annoying: the smug staff, the lying menu and tonight the semi opened aluminium cover on our otherwise yummy Granola. Unfortunately I cannot upload the photo. I suspect that their attitude was based on us just buying less than 10 items a few days before Diwali: a loaf of multigrain bread, two different Granola jars, a Cafe Latte, a Roasted Garlic Hummus, a Mascarpone Creme Eclair, and one Lemon Drop Teacake.
Remember... big Mumbai companies hand out hampers supplied by C.O.O. (we know because we got one once), hence the ignorance towards better service for individual customers.
Now that I've read other customers' reviews on Google, I find that the staff's attitude at the Nepean Sea Road branch of C.O.O. is typically disappointing despite the agreeable food. If you ever go there, make sure to ASK first before ordering from the menu, and please unscrew the lids of the Granola jars to make sure they have not been...
