The City Palace in Udaipur is a sprawling complex of palaces, gardens, and temples that have served as the royal residence of the Mewar rulers for over 400 years. It is a fascinating blend of Rajput, Mughal, and European architectural styles, and is considered one of the most beautiful palaces in India. Here are some of the highlights of the City Palace: Its built-in phases of 400 years. the first phase was started to build in 1500. * The main entrance: The imposing entrance gate, known as the Hathi Pol (Elephant Gate), is flanked by two large elephants. * The Zenana Mahal: This was the private quarters of the royal women, and it features a beautiful collection of paintings and mirrors. * The Sheesh Mahal: This hall is decorated with intricate mirror work, creating a dazzling effect. * The Peacock Courtyard: This courtyard is named for its beautiful peacock mosaics, which adorn the walls and floor. * The Lake Pichola: The palace overlooks Lake Pichola, one of the most famous lakes in India. City palace management even take you through the boat ride and drop you at Jagmandir Island palace which is open for people. You can visit the sites, take pictures, videos & vibe of the place and come back in a same boat back to City palace boarding point. It's amazing to see and amused to think how it has been built in 15th to18th century where we do not have these many facilities or technology. The City Palace is a must-see for anyone visiting Udaipur. It is a beautiful and fascinating place with a rich history and culture. Here are some additional tips for visiting the City Palace: * Allow plenty of time to explore the complex, as there is a lot to see. * Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking. * Be sure to dress modestly, as this is a religious site. * Hire a guide to learn more about the history and architecture of the palace. Management has provided different types of vehicles to commute especially electric car and trains, however it costs 50 Rs per person to commute by their vehicle. Also, Museum's tickets costs 400 per person for Indian resident. So, for 2 it costs 800 Rs for museum visit and for Pichhola lake Boat ride, ticket costs 600 pp and 50 Rs entry ticket which costs 1300 for 2. However, it may differ basis the time you visit as this cost is for morning till noon 3 PM and after 3 PM ticket costs increase by 200 Rs as you would be able to witness the sunset from Island. So, it costs 800 Rs pp. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the City Palace in Udaipur. It is a truly magical place that will leave you with lasting memories.

The City Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is a magnificent palace complex situated on the eastern bank of Lake Pichola. Constructed over nearly 400 years, its foundation was laid in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Sisodia Rajput family, who relocated his capital from Chittor to Udaipur. The palace is a blend of several palaces within its complex, showcasing the grandeur of the Mewar dynasty. The entrance ticket for the exterior of the palace is priced at ₹50, while access to the museum, which houses the royal family's rooms, articles, and more, costs an additional ₹400. The palace and museum remain open until 9 PM. Guided tours, available until 5 PM, are priced at over ₹1,000. Visitors can enjoy affordable dining at the on-site restaurants and shop for souvenirs from the available stores. A visit typically takes between three to five hours to fully appreciate the splendor. Hiring a guide is highly recommended for a comprehensive understanding of the palace’s history and architecture. The guides, available at standardized rates, provide detailed insights that enhance the experience and save time. Without a guide, it can be challenging to navigate through the crowded palace and read the information plaques. The architecture, intricate carvings, mirror inlay work, stained glass windows, semi-precious stone inlays, and artifacts such as weapons, musical instruments, gramophones, and radios highlight the royal heritage. The genealogy of the royal family, the armory, and the art and decoration of the rooms further add to the experience. Visitors are advised to bring a power bank as the palace offers numerous photo-worthy spots. The palace is well-maintained, and its views are breathtaking. To avoid crowds, it is best to visit in the morning. Parking fees start at ₹50 for bikes, and discounts are available on tickets for army or government staff, reducing museum entry to ₹250. While the palace is accessible, families with young children should be prepared for some challenges. Strollers are generally advised to be left downstairs, but carrying them through the palace is permitted and manageable. Despite the effort, visitors with young children or elderly family members find the experience rewarding and enjoyable. Though the palace is an impressive site, crowd management measures like timed slots or higher entry fees could improve the visitor experience. Nonetheless, the City Palace is a must-visit destination, leaving a lasting impression on all who explore its rich history and grandeur.
