Nawal Sagar — Attraction in Rajasthan

Lake Nawal Sagar is one of the most important tourist attractions of Bundi. Different baoris surrounds this lake in all its sides. There is a Temple of Lord Varuna, i.e the Aryan God of Water, situated at the centre of this lake and it attracts large number of worshippers. The temple is partly underwater and boat service is available to help the followers to reach the temple. The best aspect of the lake that primarily attracts the tourist is that it reflects a mirror image of the forts and palaces in its water. It was created with the aim of providing water to the various step wells that are there in Bundi to deal with water scarcity. The Nawal Sagar lake can be best viewed from above the Taragarh Fort or by the road lying adjacent to the lake. A lake in the heart of Bundi city that adds to the beauty of the landscape when viewed from Taragarh Fort. The lake is dedicated to Lord Varuna (Hindu Water God). There is a temple in the middle of the lake that was half submerged when we visited. We had a mesmerising view of the lake from the Fort. Near the lake, there is also a palace where the kings of Bundi shifted from the main palace after 1947 when Indian got free (Probably, it was difficult to maintain such a big palace in the Fort with all the powers to collect and raise revenue were gone so the kings decided to shift to a smaller palace). Nawal Sagar is a beautiful and peaceful lake with great historical significance✨️ The view, especially with the temples reflecting in the water, is truly mesmerizing and adds to Bundi’s charm ❤️

Unfortunately, the lake is not being properly maintained. There’s noticeable litter and a lack of cleanliness, which takes away from its natural beauty. It’s disappointing to see that both the locals and the responsible authorities seem to overlook its upkeep.

With regular cleaning and proper care, this place has the potential to become a major attraction. It deserves more attention...
