Read moreSaheliyo Ki Badi is one of Udaipur's most peaceful and picturesque gardens, and my recent visit there felt like stepping back in time. This garden, often translated as "The Garden of the Maidens," was built by Maharana Sangram Singh II in the 18th century, specifically for the royal ladies. As I entered, I could almost imagine the maids and princesses strolling through the pathways, enjoying the beauty and tranquility of this retreat.
The moment I walked through the gate, I was greeted by lush greenery and the soothing sound of fountains. These fountains are one of the highlights of the garden, and they operate using just the natural pressure from the nearby Fateh Sagar Lake, which adds to the charm. Walking past the elegant pavilions, I admired the lotus pools—each one more serene than the last. The setting was perfect for quiet reflection, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
As I wandered further, the beautifully sculpted marble pavilions caught my attention. These white pavilions, in contrast with the bright green of the garden, were designed for the royal ladies to sit and relax. There is something incredibly regal about this place; even as a visitor, you can feel the luxury and care that went into creating such a beautiful escape.
Another unique feature of Saheliyo Ki Badi is the abundance of trees and flowers. The garden is home to various species of trees, including bougainvillea and Gulmohar, which were in full bloom during my visit. The fragrance of the flowers added another layer to the sensory experience, making the stroll through the garden even more refreshing.
The history of the garden is also quite fascinating. It was designed to give the royal women a place to relax and enjoy themselves, away from the prying eyes of the outside world. Even today, the garden manages to maintain that sense of privacy and exclusivity. There's a certain sense of serenity here that makes it easy to imagine why the royal ladies cherished this space so much.
I spent some time sitting on one of the benches, listening to the sound of the fountains and the occasional chirping of birds. The atmosphere here is perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful moment in Udaipur. Before leaving, I took one last look at the fountains dancing in the sunlight, their gentle mist cooling the air around me.
Overall, my visit to Saheliyo Ki Badi was an enchanting experience. It's not just a historical site but a living testament to the beauty and elegance of Udaipur's royal past. If you're ever in Udaipur, I highly recommend visiting this garden to experience its serenity and...
