Chepauk Cricket Stadium, officially known as the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, is one of the most iconic cricket venues in India. Located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, this stadium is steeped in history and has been a witness to numerous historic cricketing moments since its establishment in 1916. Its rich heritage, coupled with a vibrant atmosphere, makes it a beloved destination for cricket enthusiasts.

One of the most striking aspects of Chepauk Stadium is its capacity to generate an electrifying atmosphere during matches. With a seating capacity of around 50,000, the stadium is often packed with passionate fans who create a lively and spirited environment. The crowd's energy is palpable, especially during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches where the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) play their home games. The unwavering support for CSK has turned Chepauk into a fortress for the team, often referred to as the "Whistle Podu Army" by fans.

The pitch at Chepauk has a reputation for being spin-friendly, which has historically favored Indian bowlers. This characteristic has led to some memorable performances by spinners and has made the venue a challenging ground for visiting teams. The stadium's design allows spectators to be close to the action, providing an intimate and engaging viewing experience.

Over the years, Chepauk Stadium has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities while preserving its historic charm. The upgraded seating arrangements, improved amenities, and enhanced viewing angles have greatly contributed to the comfort and convenience of spectators. The pavilion stands and corporate boxes offer premium experiences, making it a sought-after venue for corporate events and VIP guests.

However, like many historic stadiums, Chepauk faces challenges. The hot and humid weather of Chennai can be a test of endurance for both players and fans. The stadium management has made efforts to mitigate this with better ventilation and shaded areas, but the climate remains a factor to consider.

Accessibility and crowd management are other areas where Chepauk Stadium could improve. On match days, the surrounding roads can become congested, leading to...

Renovated stadium but same old problems. I saw Ind v Aus ODI 22-Mar-2023 I and J stands 1. Took 1 hr to enter the stadium. Very poor crowd management. People are literally getting pushed amd crushed in line. Very difficult for kids, ladies and elderly. Exit was equally painful. All the cops had disappeared by this time. Nobody to manage crowd. 2. Police is just standing or sitting in nice corner spots and watching Cricket instead of doing their job. 3. No water bottles allowed. So you have drink from the free drinking water area. No glass provided. If you want to drink water you have to come from your stands. Tastes like tap water, not RO. I found some old crushed water bottle and I washed it, filled water to take for my parents. 4. Impossible to get food. 6/7 food stalls for 5000 people. Who planned this? Very few counters which are swarmed by people pushing and crushing each other. If you can dare to enter this and get something, your luck. Atrocious prices. Surviving an 8 hour match with limited food and water was very difficult. Getting food or water is like leaving your stand and going to war. 5. Toilets are dirty. There are no urinals. However, there are partitions. Just pee on the tiled walls. Half of the wash basins don't work. 6. For these stands there is no proper view to the screen. Difficult to follow the scorecard. 7. Major network issue. Really poor experience for me and my family returning to Chepauk after many years. The new stands look great for TV coverage but ask any fan who was sitting in these stands if this stadium is truly renovated. Just painting and adding new stands doesn't mean anything. You are probably better off at VIP stands. For the normal junta it's a nightmare!
