Location: Triplicane, Chennai Visited for: Lunch Menu Highlights: Fish meals, Paarai fish fry, seafood varieties

Introduction

Sundari Akka Kadai, a newly opened restaurant in the bustling streets of Triplicane, has quickly garnered attention for its authentic seafood dishes and homely meals. It offers a variety of fish-based delicacies that will certainly appeal to seafood lovers. As someone who recently visited, I had a chance to enjoy their signature Fish Meals and Paarai Fish Fry, which left a lasting impression. Here’s a detailed review of the experience, ambiance, and service.

Fish Meals: A Perfect Balance of Taste and Value

Price: ₹150 What’s Included:

Unlimited White Rice: Soft, fluffy rice served generously, perfect for soaking in the fish kuzhambu.

Fish Kuzhambu (Unlimited): The highlight of the meal, this kuzhambu had a rich and authentic flavor. The tangy tamarind and spices were perfectly balanced, complementing the fish wonderfully. The kuzhambu was served in unlimited quantities, allowing diners to indulge freely.

One Big Fish Piece (Limited): A generously sized fish, well-cooked and tender, served as the star of the meal. The fish was succulent, with a delicate taste that enhanced the kuzhambu.

Boiled Egg (Limited): A perfectly boiled egg added a nutritious element to the meal.

Kesari: A sweet treat, kesari was a delightful surprise with its soft texture and balanced sweetness.

Appalam: Crispy and fresh, adding a nice crunchy contrast to the meal.

Beetroot Carrot Poriyal: The poriyal was lightly seasoned and healthy, providing a fresh and colorful side dish.

Rasam: The rasam was light and tangy, offering a perfect transition after the richness of the kuzhambu.

Buttermilk: A refreshing and cooling end to the meal, ideal for finishing after a spicy dish.

For ₹150, this meal was both filling and highly satisfying. The generous portions and unlimited servings made it a great value for money, especially for seafood lovers.

Paarai Fish Fry: A Must-Try Addition

Price: ₹150 The Paarai Fish Fry was a standout dish on its own. The fish was perfectly marinated with a blend of spices that enhanced the natural flavor of the fish without overpowering it. The exterior was crispy, while the inside remained tender and juicy. This dish is a must-try for anyone who enjoys fried fish, and it pairs excellently with the rice and kuzhambu from the fish meals.

Other Menu Options: Diverse Seafood Choices

Although I tried the fish meals and Paarai fish fry, Sundari Akka Kadai offers a wide range of seafood options that cater to various tastes:

Prawn Varieties

Vavval Fish Fry

Vanjaram Fish Fry

Nethili Fish Fry

Chicken Dishes

With such an extensive menu, there’s something for everyone, and each dish promises fresh, flavorful seafood.

Ambiance: Comfortable and Air-Conditioned

Sundari Akka Kadai has managed to create a comfortable dining experience by offering an air-conditioned restaurant with sufficient seating. The interiors are simple but functional, with enough tables to accommodate groups without feeling cramped. The cool ambiance is perfect, especially during the hot Chennai afternoons, making it a pleasant spot for a relaxed meal.

Service: Friendly and Efficient

One of the standout features of the restaurant was the friendly and efficient service. The staff was attentive and quick to respond to requests, making the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. They were happy to explain the menu options and ensure that diners were satisfied with their meals.

Final Thoughts: A Seafood Lover's Paradise

Sundari Akka Kadai in Triplicane offers an authentic seafood dining experience at reasonable prices. The fish meals, particularly the fish kuzhambu and Paarai fish fry, were the highlights of my visit. The menu offers a wide range of seafood delicacies, and with unlimited servings of kuzhambu and rice, it provides great value for money. The comfortable ambiance, friendly service, and high-quality food make it a must-visit spot for anyone craving...

Taste ,homely but dont think that you can have your kids eat it mainly the Fish kolambu

Negatives: 1.Absolutely it was a sudden success which they dont know how to handle , they are like absolutely clueless about the next step, leave about the next step , just they are forgetting their routine in midst of talking and photo sessions,

for a street side eatery , merely "Kayenthi" as we tamilians famously call once, the Price (ok i can shell out for the taste)

ill tell you i have been to the best reaturant as well as worst in service in my city Chennai (sorry restaurateurs to compare you guys with sundari akka) here i see mere lack of their routine work and forgetting what's the work in front of all the talking among themselves.

And i have to tell you guys please inquire about the Rate /dish before you order, they play a so called wise game if you dont ask back, i ordered 2 rice and 2 prawns, at the end i know very well the Rice cost 40 each and prawns 100 each so its total Rs .280 , i gave Rs.300 to Sundari akka and said what i had, cooly that lady puts it in the galla and walks off, with a simle i said its 402 and 1002 =280 then she without any expression gives back the Rs.20

we give lots of tips and GST when we go to a restaurant thats fine , but the attitude is really mean , i not expecting Customer service in a kaiyenthi like this , but at least you should concentrate on your work which automatically gives a good sense to your customer )

Simply a mess on the waiting time until you give a order and keep reminding him its not gonna happen , the person who had thought this type of marketing should have also thought these poor guys on how to sustain the effort and Mainly work to go forward.(I emphasize that we where there on a Wednesday , there were hardly 3 or 4 customers only for your information)

for me certainly a good taste is eaten by unprofessional behavior, sorry about that they dont know that so we can't...

Had fish meals, vanjaram fry and prawns fry. Taste wise prawns fry(150₹) was superb, quantity seems less but taste wise it was very good. Fish meals was good, got big portion of fish, for 100₹ it was worth and tasty. Seer fish fry (150₹) was like cooked without any masala. No salt, no spices. They gives bigger piece for 200₹. I dont recommend this item. May be it was like that when I visited. I see vanjaram is very popular as people are ordering that most compared to other fish fries. Cost wise i think it is cheap compared to popular restaurants in south chennai.

Even though they provide token for meals, service is kind of chaotic, we have to stand near counter waiting for them to serve in plates. No particular order followed. Seer fish fry was in different counter. There also they follow no particular order. Had to wait a long time, even after giving them token.

They serve food on the beach with tables and chairs laid in sands. Tarpaulin sheets were there to protect from sun. if I remember correct, seating capacity is about 20 people, probably less. Saw many came as family for lunch. Unfortunately during meals we had very very wind and heavy rain. Sheets were torn many places and every customers got drenched. I couldn't finish luch because it mixed with rain water from sheets. For billing they encourage cash only payments. Sometimes they allow UPI payment. They have phonepe QR code sometimes they show and sometimes they hides. Overal service and attitude was...

Dec 2022 - This place doesn't deserve to be called an street side eatery. No proper system for serving food. Their intention is purely money making. They have already grown big and wealthy I suppose, comes from their attitude towards customers. One place for token issuance, another for serving rice, fish gravy and prawns fry, and yet another place to get fish fry (Vanjaram). Coming to food, this is a normal fish gravy that any hotels or road side eateries can serve, the cost of rice with fish and gravy is Rs 100. Not too expensive but kind off ok at Marina Beach. Not many options hence. Food is definitely not that great as some youtubers state on their channel. The price of prawns fry at Rs 150 and Vanjaram (Seer Fish) was Rs 200. This was definitely not worth the price. Taste of prawns was better compared to Vanjaram fish. Coming to managing customers, they are least bothered whether you sit, stand or get lost. Once money is collected, they forget you. The guy serving Rice & fish gravy do not bother to look after the customers needs, Service is their least priority. I somehow managed to find a seat, what next, everywhere there are dogs and crows eagerly waiting to take a bite from your plate, Good companionship. Inspite of all this, the place is still crowded, not because of taste, after all that playing in sea, you are really tired of going anywhere out, this and another adjacent eatery are the only options at Marina Beach.

This place has been reviewed by people from all quarters hundreds of thousands of times in every social media platform available. So there's nothing much to say other than my experience to this place for the 3rd time. I had been there few months ago for the first time, to all the hype it had surrounded with and to the actual experience, it doesn't alter much. Food is really good, the fish fry was excellent and so was the prawn curry. Since we went there around 8.30pm most of the items got over except for the fish and prawns. The fish fry costed 100 and the prawns costed ₹120 and the fish curry with rice costed 50₹. I personally thought for that quantity and for the ambience, 120₹ was a tad expensive for prawns. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially the fish and the prawns. The fish curry was ok, thought it could have been better, but overall a sweet experience. Previously when I had been there it was always crowded but this time around it was quieter and the people serving treated the customers requests better and also had options to pay by Paytm or UPI. There are similar such places surrounding this place but the traction it receives is much better, mostly cos of the social media awareness..
