It's overhyped. One of the old mess and a famous one - indeed. But the food taste, quantity is a huge let down. They charge 120 for a meal(100 if you go for non AC.(The AC first floor charges higher than the ground floor seating.) You get rice, one poriyal, one kootu, pickle, sambhar, rasam and butter milk. No non-veg gravies provided... duh!!!! All were kind of bland and tasted so and so only. Each of the gravy is priced from 80+.. you get an ice cream Bowl kind of quantity with one meat piece in it. They refill gravy alone if needed. The fish gravy was watery and lacked the tanginess. We ordered suraputtu (₹80) and eral thokku(₹90). I have never in my life seen such a small dhonnais being used in my life. It's sufficient to hold one standard round gulab jamun with jeera. That's it. Sura puttu contained lot of carrot (who puts carrot in sura puttu? That too in such proportions?) Eral thokku at least tasted like usual eral thokku nothing special with hardly 10 small eral. Mutton biriyani is also over priced. Only two normal size meat pieces, which were tender though. Quantity is okayish but they stuffed egg in that small bowl again.. looked like mushroom pulao but tasted okayish. Literally zero parking. Park your vehicle near stadium and take a short walk. The place is too costly for the quantity that they serve and taste is average. I wonder why ppl praise such a place. I understand taste differs but this is a total different level. Andhra mess does a great job than this place.

Extremely Dishonest Staff. I visited the place on 30th May, 2024 9:30pm. I ordered a Veg meal, 2 Mutton Brain Fry and 2 Sankara Fish Fry. The food was delicious and lived up to the expectation. However, now comes the horrible part. There was a power cut and therefore they were unable to generate a computerised bill. They instead gave me a handwritten bill. Given the reputation of the place, I did not bother to verify the prices. I ended up paying Rs.1230 whereas the actual amount should have been Rs. 670. Breakup as follows: Veg meal Rs. 110 2 Mutton Bheja Fry 2 x 110 = 220 2 Sankara Fish Fry 2 x 170 = 340 The cashier suspected when the waiter quoted the amount and checked the handwritten bill too. But did not bother to correct it. I paid Rs. 1230 via Google Pay and have the payment proof too. Attaching the payment screenshot & pics of my visit to make sure that you know that this is not just another fake post/review to defame a place. While I did not bother to go back and confront them, sharing this here for others to be careful & the owners to take stock of what’s going on here to save the reputation of this renowned place.

This was my Second visit after 8 years and it has changed a lot. Renovated and looks good but there is no information/menu for first timers. Servers are well mannered and Orally give you the menu but in the chaos of Popularity they bring you every other dish to try even if u don't order it Incase your senses want them after you look at them. The Menu is simple they have standard Meals which are mash up of Kerala or Chettinadu cuisine. That's INR 95 You can order Chicken/Mutton/Fish curry in a small bowl and can request them to give extra too. That's around INR 95 Or thick masala Prawn too which we didn't try You can add Fish fry for 200 and an Omelette . You got Chicken and mutton Biriyani. Tasty food and awesome new decor but the quantity of sides are so less in other words it's expensive for the serving. This old classic is situated in a not so good narrow road. No parking nearby. My suggestion is to increase quantity/servings. Put a menu board even if it's limited menu and make your servers to inform the same and accommodate the guests

I arrived at 9 pm on a weekday, an hour b4 closing time. 90% items were over. The parcel charges were sky high. Even Bangalore restos have lesser parcel charges. The parcel materials were cheap, absolutely worthless. Now coming to the customer service; the staff behaviour was pathetic and hostile. So many waiters were sitting jobless but not even one was considerate. This resto should be shut down, let alone be the "best resto in Chennai". The prices were high considering the filthy area its located in. Why do they call Mutton chops as chops when there is only 1 small bony leftover piece in 300ml full of gravy? The chicken fry was totally full of bony and tiny pieces, I guess people feed better meat to even dogs. The chicken fry costed 160 bucks including parcel which was not even 100gms of meat. The fish curry and "MUTTON CHOP CURRY" WAS FULL OF TAMARIND AND NOT A TRACE OF COCONUT MILK OR OIL. SHAME ON YOU NAIR MESS FOR LOOTING PEOPLES' TRUST AND MONEY. I HOPE YOUR RESTO SHUTS DOWN SOON. YOU WILL BE CURSED FOR USING SUCH SUB STANDARD PRODUCTS AND FOOLING MASSES. How come noone awarded this place as the FAKE KERALA RESTO? This is the worst parcel portions I have ever had in life. The 300ml fish curry had just 1 smaller than a head piece and the same with mutton chops. The egg dosa had no trace of egg in it or any flavours for that matter. Even roadside lorrys have better quantities, quality, taste...

Our group of 6 had visited Nair mess after hearing raving reviews. We were sorely disappointed with the food and the service. When were given our table, we found an egg (boiled) under our chair. When I called the waiter to notify him, I was shushed rather rudely because he wanted to attend to another table.

The service throughout our meal was abysmal. When asked 'what's good here' or 'what do you suggest' or 'what do you have' - the response was 'people usually come here for the side dishes', 'everything is good here' - all we wanted was to know what was available, looks like we were supposed to know before arriving at the mess. The best part was the wait, we had wait for 3-5 mins everytime we wanted to get someone's attention. I understand it is a mess but basic level of service is expected at these places.

It was my mistake to expect vegetarian options to be good here. But damn, all they had was one bad tasting Sambar, bad tasting rasam and an awful carrot porial. No pickle, no podi, no papdam, nothing. My friends had the mutton chukka, mutton curry and fish curry. All of their reviews on these dishes summed up in one word - "Meh".

I can keep going about the bills and the prices, I'll just end it with saying that it is overpriced.

Did not enjoy any aspect of going here, will not recommend to anyone...
