Mekar Ubud Jungle Spa by K club — Attraction in Pulau Bali

What a luxurious, unique, mind-blowing 5 star spa treatment! Wow, oh WOW! Mekar offer a bespoke range of authentic farm to table treatments and packages that will delight the fussiest of customers. It was certainly the best spa experience of my life!

Located within the lux Ubud K-Club resort in Bali’s stunning jungle district, Mekar’s treatments take place in intimate cocoons that blend seamlessly with the lush, jungle landscape to create a truly unique Balinese experience.

From the moment you step inside K-Club’s reception area you are treated like royalty, welcomed by friendly Balinese and escorted to the secluded spa centre through lush gardens and carefully curated landscapes.

We opted for the romantic Chocolate Ecstasy couples experience which lasted for 3 heavenly hours. Our treatment started on the upper level of a private cocoon overlooking the lush jungle landscape with a cocoa foot ritual and refreshment to set the mood. This was followed by a one hour full body massage using cocoa shea butter lotion. We then experienced a chocolate body scrub, followed by a luxurious chocolate body wrap.

With smooth, hydrated skin and feeling completely relaxed and de-stressed, we were escorted to the intimate downstairs area where we indulged in a relaxing 60 minute, flower filled, tub to soak away our cares.

There was a delicious tasting box filled with gourmet sweet and savoury delights and a chilled bottle of bubbles to complement the romantic setting.

I can’t explain what it felt like to experience Mekar. From the moment we stepped into the cocoon, the mood was set for an unbeatable, next level spa treatment! The staff were incredible and the jacuzzi session at the end was the perfect “pinch yourself” moment to reflect and soak up the jungle atmosphere. Such a let down!

I contacted Mekar by WhatsApp to book a treatment. I asked for a scrub and flower bath. They recommended me a couple package but I replied that it was for one. They informed me that the flower bath for one person was not an option and recommended me a massage, scrub and wrap instead. I confirmed only to learn from my massage therapist later that flower baths for one person were an option after all.

So for the experience: the treatment room had no proper view of the jungle. It had a narrow window covered by blinds. It could’ve been any treatment room really. Being in the jungle added nothing to the experience without the view! the massage, scrub and wrap was nice. The therapist was lovely and attentive. Staff overall was welcoming.

While making my payment I confronted the staff about the situation. I felt a bit of a language barrier. One member of staff explained that I couldn’t make use of the flower bath because the couple treatment was not optional for a single person. Which makes no sense because I checked the spa menu and they have flower baths and scrubs available without having to choose a special deal or package. The other staff member said there was no availability. If they informed me, I would’ve booked on a different date.

So all in all, even though the treatment and the setting in the jungle was nice, I would not come back since I feel a bit robbed of my treatment of choice.

TL;DR Wanted a scrub and flower bath but got recommended a different treatment instead after being informed it was not an option for a single person. Turned out it was after all, just maybe not that time or date. Yet wasn’t informed about that. Treatment itself was nice, overall setting was lovely. Treatment room for single person offers little to no view of the jungle. It adds nothing to the experience. Won’t be revisiting. Was not worth the hour...
