Ā Ā Ā Read morePasar itu adalah Pasar Ngasem Jogja. Sebuah pasar yang konon sudah berdiri sejak tahun 1800-an. Dua abad lebih pasar di tengah area Njeron Beteng ini memutar roda ekonomi sekitarnya. Bukan hanya menyediakan kebutuhan rumah tangga, namun juga kebutuhan hobi para pria Jogja.
Mari kita terbang jauh ke masa lalu, tepatnya pada tahun 1765. Pada masa itu, Pasar Ngasem Jogja belum berdiri. Namun ada tanggul besar yang menahan air di calon lokasi pasar ini. Tanggul itu adalah bagian dari Istana Air Taman Sari, sebuah situs taman serta vila istana Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Istana ini dibangun olehĀ Sri Sultan HB I dan diselesaikan oleh Sri Sultan HB II.
Danau besar yang airnya bersumber dari Kali Larangan serta Umbul Pacethokan ini bagaikan cermin yang gemerlap. Di tengahnya berdiri sebuah bangunan megah perpaduan arsitektur Jawa dan Portugis. Maklum, salah satu arsitek kompleks ini adalah Demang Tegis, sosok misterius yang berasal dari Portugis.
Mari kita melompat sampai 1812, masa di mana Taman Sari menjadi reruntuhan. Serangan tentara Inggris meluluhlantakkan vila megah ini. Peristiwa itu dikenal sebagai Geger Sepehi/Sepoy. Sebelumnya Taman Sari juga sudah rusak pada 1803 akibat gempa yang bersumber dari letusan Gunung Guntur di Jawa Barat.
Akhirnya Taman Sari hancur lebur ketika dihantam gempa pada 1867. Gempa besar ini sukses menghancurkan vila dan taman megah ini menjadi puing-puing. Namun di atas puing-puing ini akan berdiri ratusan pemukiman. Dan di salah satu bekas tanggulnya akan berdiri pusat perdagangan burung dan hewan kesayangan Jogja.
Karakter yang unik dan artistik Pasar Ngasem Jogja membuat banyak seniman ingin merekam keindahannya. Terutama mereka yang sedang sekolah di Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI) yang melebur dalamĀ Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI). Para mahasiswa ini silih berganti melukis sketsa Pasar Ngasem. Entah sebagai tugas kuliah atau keinginan pribadi.
