So I visited here yesterday after a long drive. Just to see what it's like as I was planning on bringing the kids to build sandcastles etc. On the other end of the beach. So obviously we get out to check it out and to our delight there is some public bathrooms/showers. Kids are looking to use it so we walk over only to realise they're 20c not a big problem if you have brought your purse/wallets. One man who was just exiting the loo overheard and left the door open for us to use then suddenly the toilet security/caretaker comes and stops us from using the bathroom as we didn't put the 20c I explained to him that we didn't bring a purse it was our first time to come but not a chance. We were told the bathrooms are not a charity. Some kind ladies came and overheard the drama so offered to pay for the kids to use the bathrooms which I declined as I just wanted to go. He then changed his mind and told us to just use them. Which I declined. Moral of the story carry small change with you when going here. Security is taking the loo serious lol.

Always a good buzz around with people walking the prom and "kicking the wall " ( down by the public diving tower ) I forget what the actual distance is from one end of the prom to the other exactly but you start down by the aquarium roughly walk to Blackrock and "kick" the wall as you turn and go back to the start. You will also see a lot of hardy soul's out swimming in the sea in all seasons !!! I get cold just looking at them lol. It's especially beautiful at sunrise ( not that I have been there at that time in a while) and sunset which is when I took this picture.

A lot of people walking along the prom, the beach wasnt very busy but that's to be expected in October, although there were a few brave people actually swimming in the sea. The sand is a silvery grey colour which seemed strange with us being used to golden beaches. Prom and beaches were clean and the sea was very clear. Can imagine this is a very popular place in the summer.

Blackrock Beach is an idyllic spot that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Galway city. The beach is located just a short drive from the city center and offers stunning views of Galway Bay and the surrounding hills. The sand is soft and clean, and the water is clear and refreshing, making it a great spot for swimming or simply lounging on the shore. The beach is also well-maintained, with clean restrooms and plenty of parking available. There are some great restaurants and cafes nearby if you're looking for a bite to eat, or you can simply bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Overall, Blackrock Beach is a fantastic spot for a day trip or a relaxing...

Very nice spot to go for a swim. A must visit if you come to Galway. When the tide comes in you can jump from the pier high tower into the Atlantic.there is a cold public shower which most people use, however, If you want a little luxury after you cold Atlantic swim, there is warm showers near changing area which costs 20 cents. I recommend going for a swim, grabbing a warm drink and walking the prom.just take in the scenery :-) Ps. You may see jellyfish in the sea in summer. If they are small to medium size but transparent, they are not poisonous. If they are darker, be a bit more cautious. Lions mane jellies are known to float in the area in summer.

All in all its safe...
