Visiting the Donegal Railway Heritage Museum was like stepping into a living history book, with each exhibit bringing the golden age of railway travel to life. Nestled in the heart of Donegal, this gem of a museum offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages, and it’s all thanks to the exceptional staff, particularly Jim, whose expertise and storytelling truly elevate the experience. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the museum. The meticulously preserved artifacts, ranging from old railway carriages to vintage ticket stubs, each told a story of its own. However, it was Jim who transformed these static displays into a vibrant and engaging narrative. His encyclopedic knowledge of the railway's history was awe-inspiring, but it was his storytelling ability that truly captivated us. Jim’s passion for the railway and its history was evident in every word he spoke. His detailed explanations and fascinating anecdotes transported us back in time, making us feel as though we were part of the railway’s storied past. Whether he was describing the daily lives of the railway workers, the technological advancements of the trains, or the impact of the railway on the local community, Jim’s enthusiasm was infectious. His stories were not just informative but also filled with humor and emotion, making the entire experience both educational and thoroughly entertaining. One of the highlights of our visit was the guided tour led by Jim. His ability to weave historical facts with personal stories and local legends brought a unique and personal touch to the tour. We learned about the pivotal role the railway played in Donegal’s history and how it connected the town to the broader world. Jim’s vivid descriptions and personal insights gave us a deeper appreciation for the heritage preserved within the museum’s walls. The Donegal Railway Heritage Museum itself is a treasure trove of history. The interactive displays and well-preserved artifacts are a testament to the dedication of the museum’s staff and volunteers. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated, providing a comprehensive overview of the railway’s significance in Donegal. The museum’s commitment to preserving and sharing this important aspect of local history is truly commendable. In conclusion, the Donegal Railway Heritage Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, trains, or simply looking for a delightful day out. The exceptional quality of the exhibits is matched only by the extraordinary staff, especially Jim. His remarkable knowledge and storytelling abilities make a visit to the museum an unforgettable experience. Thank you, Jim, for bringing the past to life with such passion and skill.

First of all there is no parking directly outside the museum but on the opposite side of the roundabout there is some street parking (Pay to Park Mon- Sat) and just past the museum there is the St John Boscoe centre were you can park for free. On entering the museum which is the old station building you are met by very friendly and helpful staff. There are a couple of rooms to look around and in one a short film about the line, very interesting as it captures things that are no longer around. There is a carriage outside that has some useful info and a children interaction area. Overall a lovely place to visit and made better because I could bring my dog.

Trains do not run in County Donegal, but they historically did. This railroad museum learns you about the trains and railway lines that used to be located in County Donegal. Inside are multiple artifacts of the railroad in County Donegal like old tickets, signs and pictures. There are also multiple scale models on display and a nice layout. Outside are a few railcars on display. The museum is raising funds for the restauration of a famous locomotive from Donegal called "Drumboe". The admission is free but it's suggested to make a donation. The museum is ran by nice people, had a warm welcome and was offered a cup of coffee.

A little gem. This is such a fabulous little find !!! The admission is €5/€4 or €13 for a family - bargain. There's a few interactive things for children, a 50 min video for adults, and old fashioned children's games to play. Little museum rooms to look at, a miniature gauge ride (only 100 yds forward then back). 3 or 4 old carriages, and the locomotive to stand in. All set in the old station house. It's small, but brilliant. And we were made so welcome.

An extremely friendly woman greeted us and gave a mini tour and then was only too happy to answer any questions Plenty of original posters, signs and other items to be seen 5 euro in so can't complain too much, a lot of stuff the staff know about but need funding to fix and improve Hopefully they can get the things they want and need and make this a must see Recommended

Great little museum for the big and the little. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they offer a ride on a move able Thomas the Engine which is great craic. Overall the museum is nice and cosy, offering a little bit of everything about the old Donegal Railway service. Great little stop on a trip to D'Gall!
