Dominus Flevit is one of the attractions at the Mount of Olives, situated a fair distance up the slope past the Church of Saint Mary Magdalena. Opening hours are 8-11.45am and 2.30-5pm daily.

There is a small church on the grounds that is famously shaped like a tear drop, to commemorate the belief that Christ wept for Jerusalem upon this site. You can enter the small church, sit for a brief rest from climbing the steep street up to the church grounds.

Within the church, you will see a beautiful view of the Old City when peering out the window behind the alter. There is a cross in the window screen. It marks the spot in the Old City where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is found.

From outside the church, there are additional resting places with outstanding views of the Old City from this vantage point upon the Mount of Olives.

Overall, Dominus Flevit is a nice inclusion to the Mount of Olive attractions but quite a climb which could be challenging and...

We traveled to our Holy Land, The State of Israel, on a journey of faith, visiting many important / historical sites.

Jerusalem is the jewel, every stone, every building seemed to be part of the journey of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Every day, we would attend Mass, held by our community priest, Father James P. Murphy.

In Jerusalem, mass was held at the Dominus Flevit Church, a small Catholic church situated on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

Its name in Latin means “The lord Cried” – this refers to Jesus who wept while looking at the 2nd Temple after predicting its destruction which would lead to the Jewish exile by the Romans.

The mosaic on the altar has an illustration of a hen gathering her chickens, which is based on Luke 13,44:

“O Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets & stones those who are sent to it!

How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!”

An...

Egli rispose: «Andate a dire a quella volpe: Ecco, io scaccio i demòni e compio guarigioni oggi e domani; e il terzo giorno avrò finito. (Luca 13,31-35)
