From the outside Bari Castello looks fascinating and calls out to be explored, sadly the actual experience leaves a lot to be desired.

My belief is that for most people the excitement of a castle arrises from exploring the walls and towers, enjoying the experience of looking out from these high vantage points imagining oneself defending the same walls from invaders.

In many ways this is an easy way to engage young children in history.

The reality of Bari Castello is quite different. It is a dry soulless museum. Internal rooms only with lifeless exhibitions. With little to engage an adult let alone a child. Access to look out of even the few windows it has, is prohibited and there is no access to the walls or any vantage point.

Some may be fascinated by the Korean paper exhibition or the Greek vases but for most this will be a fleeting visit.

At €6 (as at July 2022) it is overpriced and uninteresting. Enjoy walking around the exterior for free, during the day or early evening. It has a definite turkish feel to it and seen under a crescent moon stirs the imagination.

Bari as a town may not be known as a tourist destination but the next old town is worth exploring and it is an enjoyable place to visit, just dont waste your money...

The museum itself is quite underwhelming, and one can argue whether visit is worth the 8 euros. However, the ticket seller is one of the rudest individuals I have ever encountered in my life. From the moment we approached her, she sighed and rolled her eyes because, believe it or not, she had to sell us tickets! It was shocking and unbelievable that someone expected her to do her job. Of course, this couldn't go without issues either because I gave her 17 euros at the counter, and the tickets only cost 16 euros. For this lady, it was such a huge problem that she started shrugging her shoulders and saying she didn't have change, so I thought for her and suggested that maybe one of her colleagues could provide change. But even here, she couldn't perform her job because she sent me to her coworkers to get change. A ticket counter that doesn't have 1 euro in change. What a disappointment. I don't recommend this place, and I recommend that the ticket seller find a job that...
