This is one heck of a museum. Probably the best one in my recent memory. Surprisingly wide selection of artifacts and visual displays, covering from prehistoric era to Roman to middle ages.
I also noticed that the curator placed some contemporary arts next to these old items, making the experience very unique.
When we bought the tickets we were told to expect at least two hours to spend, but I think we could have spent at least half a day easily.
Would wanted to give six stars but took one off because:
lack of English-speaking staff - this one was first somewhat inconvenient, but Google translator was helpful to get basic information. For safety reason, though, this might be necessary to guide non-italian speakers in case of emergency.
need a better signage and more maps - there are arrow signs for general flow but found them sometimes lost. It’d be nicer to place some maps every few sectors to indicate where we are at and what to do next. Or some audio-guide w/ numbering would help to follow the flow better.
need some rest area like cafe- the museum is bigger than it looks and it took quite a while to fully enjoy it. It’d been great to have a small cafe to grab a snack, gelato, or drink in the middle, while...
I heard this museum was fantastic and the excavations and ruins certainly are but.... This is the most poorly laid out museum I've ever visited, The map provided at the ticket office is useless, Apart from one directional arrow at the beginning there is no route or directions nor were there any staff providing this, Ascended a flight of stairs to find myself at a temporary exhibition that was an extra cost....why not have this signage at the bottom of the stairs? Small text description of items and poorly lit so couldn't be bothered reading, Roman exhibit on the bottom floor with artefacts in small cabinets at right angles to the walls inside an enormous room, just doesn't make sense, Found myself going around in circles and back tracking parts i had seen before, The confusion sucked all enthusiasm out of me for the amazing sights and I was happy to get out of there. Maybe I was over museums after one month of travelling but I think this place could be so...
Read moreLovingly and painstakingly curated museum staffed by helpful, kind and knowledgeable people who are passionate about what they do. A must see in Brescia. So much history, so many stories, so many artifacts … it was a very rich experience that lasted 4 hours and still left me wanting to stay longer. This complex is a must see in Brescia. Both the museum and the Capitolium so poignantly take one back in history.
The one improvement I would suggest for serious consideration is better mapping inside the museum and a more intuitive audio guide. Currently it is difficult to follow the path and the audio guide is a total disaster. The museum officials might do well to check out the audio guides provided in museums in Vienna and Salzburg, so that they can see how a good audio...
