Fortress of the medieval era and located on the Cidneo hill, close to the historic center of the city of Brescia. One of the most important tourist stops in the city itself where you can also visit the weapons museum, which I find particularly interesting, as well as a fantastic view of the city, especially the historic city center. The bars in the area also offer a wide choice of drinks and dishes typical of the area that make the climb less tiring (there are 3 main routes to reach the fortress from the historic center, one from via San Faustino and two climbs from the tunnel, the fourth climb it is more advisable to take it by car from piazzale Arnaldo). The castle is accessed via an imposing monumental portal from the 16th century, decorated with a large Lion of San Marco and the coats of arms of the Venetian rectors. On the sides you can admire the ramparts of San Faustino (left) and San Marco (right). Crossing the entrance, following the path to the right, you reach the bastion of San Pietro, also meeting a sixteenth-century well to which two stone lions have been affixed. Following the path on the left, however, you will first notice the bell tower of the former sanctuary of Santo Stefano Nuovo, then go along the Haynau building. On the square above the San Faustino bastion there is a characteristic steam locomotive, one of the symbols of the Castle. On the right, near the long officer's building, there is the entrance to the Soccorso road. Beyond it you will find the buildings of the Piccolo Miglio, now an exhibition venue, and the Grande Miglio, where the Museum of the Risorgimento is housed. Here is also the entrance to the covered passage that leads to the fifteenth-century Coltrina tower. Going up the ramp you reach the fourteenth-century wall with an entrance equipped with a double drawbridge: on the right rises the tower of the Prisoners. Proceeding to the left, you go along the keep. Finally, we reach the northern gardens, with the top of the Coltrina tower on the left, the Martyrs' pit in the center and the French tower on the right. From the drawbridge you can also reach the top of the fortress with the square of the Mirabella Tower, where you also have access to the Luigi Marzoli Arms Museum. From the various highest points of the fortress you can truly appreciate a fantastic view of the city from various points. The view is very beautiful, especially at night, the various entrances of the city are often used as running routes by many lovers of climbs. In this case, if you want to avoid the stairs, we recommend the San Faustino-Piazzale Arnaldo route. The tickets for the weapons museum can be bought on the spot and I don't find it essential to buy them online, you don't have to wait a long time. The time to visit the museum was around 30 minutes without a local guide. The time to visit the castle with all the necessary stops is 3 hours

ย ย ย Read moreReally cool castle experience, recommend the armory museum! I am really sad that I have forgotten the name of the female security guard who answered our questions and explained in detail about the use of different weapons and armor. She made the experience a great one. We bought the 19 Eur ticket to 5 museums on site. Recommend taking like 3-4 hours just to get the full castle experience and really go through the museums if you plan to go and see the winged victory the same day (which you have to book a time slot for but they do it for you when you buy the ticket). But back to the castle, really nice. Loved it. 10/10...
