If you are planning to travel in Sicilia do not forget to include Erice in the list. There is a funicular from Trapani to Erice so it is easy to get there even without a car. There is a good parking downstairs near the funicular station so it is a good point in the itinerary when travelling by car as well. If you are in Erice do not miss the Venus Castle - it will take 10 min on foot from the city entrance and it is really beautiful and worth to be seen. Il prezzo è di 6,00 euro a persona per visitare le rovine dell’antico tempio dedicato a Venere e anche il museo che si trova a pochi passi dal castello.

Quel che rimane dell’antico tempio la fortezza fu distrutta dai Cartaginesi nel 260 a.C. Rimangono oggi, sparsi qua e là, solo alcuni ruderi del tempio romano dedicato a Venere ericina. (In sostanza non serve pagare per poi visitare delle macerie). Si può visitare gratuitamente l'esterno del Castello 😍, caratterizzato dalle Torri Medioevali, con un suggestivo belvedere che si affaccia sui boschi di querce e da cui si può ammirare l’incantevole panoramica sul litorale nord, il Monte Cofano e la baia di Cornino, costituivano l’avamposto del Castello di Venere. Furono parzialmente ricostruite alla fine del secolo scorso per volontà del conte Agostino Pepoli, cui si deve anche la costruzione della torretta Pepoli. Tutt’intorno al Castello di Venere si estendono i giardini all’inglese del Balio, magnifici per la disposizione a terrazza e la bellezza delle piante. Il nome delle torri e del giardino probabilmente derivano dal governatore normanno (Baiulo) che qui aveva dimora. La vista da quassù è incredibile. A nord, la baia di Cornino e il monte Cofano, dietro al quale si allunga la punta di San Vito Lo Capi, sono incantevoli.
