Slight chaos with the crowds. Really suggest pre-purchasing the Cinque Terre tickets online (family "all-in" for 48 EUR) to skip the queue. Also aim for the front and rear of the trains; many have top floors that people seem to neglect, the stairs are near the ends of each carriage. Also - be ready, the return trip can get really messy...

I like the station having options to buy food and not having to leave. The streets are really rough and uneven as you walk away from the station. I’ve attempted it and didn’t go very far. If you have a short stop, maybe an hour or so leave the station if you must to walk around and enjoy the architecture. If you’re like me and have a suitcase, maybe consider getting food at the one right at the station. It is busy like the other reviews mentioned, but it appears to be the “gateway” so Cinque Terre so expect crowds. I’m here on the first week of January and the station is still busy. There are covered areas on some of the platforms if you want to stay warm as it is a bit chilly in the first week of January. Avoid the ticket lines like others have mentioned and book online...

Italy is beautiful, most staff we meet are friendly and patient, fitting for a country which takes great pride in its tourism and rich culture.

Strangely, this ticket counter staff lady with short blonde hair, was very impatient when we told her our itinerary. She did not speak English well but what was worse is that she didn’t try to compensate it with her patience. We wanted to to travel around Cinque Terre and visit Pisa and she told us to get the 3 day pass.

Only on the 3rd day we found out our pass couldn’t get us to Pisa. We had to buy another Euro$33 tickets. Which meant we spent an excess of $73. Another meal down the drain just like that. Thanks a lot! One star for this poorly...

La Spezia Centrale serves as a key gateway to the Cinque Terre and other Ligurian destinations. The station is functional and easy to navigate, with clear signage, multiple platforms, and access to regional and intercity trains. It’s not the most modern facility, but it gets the job done, and the proximity to local shops and cafes is a plus.

That said, the station could benefit from some updates—especially in terms of seating, escalator access, and restroom facilities. During peak travel times, it can get crowded, so it’s wise to arrive early and validate tickets in advance. Despite its quirks, it remains a practical and essential hub for...
