We had had coffees here in the day several times - fine - and thought we might try having dinner there. A mistake. Food was straight from the cheap end of a poor supermarket - the cold cuts were all very low quality indeed, and the tuna was distinctly frozen (and cost us 30 euros each). The waitress was bossy and actually pretty nasty though she thought she was funny (we are fluent Italian speakers and understood her all too well; we played along to be polite) and she rushed us though the dinner peremptorily without even giving us a choice of what was on the menu - she just told us. She was annoyed when we didn't want dessert or coffee. The one campari spritz - we'd asked for a campari soda in fact - was far too strong (suggesting they didn't know how to make one), the one glass of white wine cheap and nasty, and the campari spritz even arrived AFTER the wine when we specifically asked for it to be an aperitivo (it always is - they should have known that). Nice mushrooms but everything else was dreadful. We couldn't eat the tuna and we eat everything. A rip off for 96 Euros for the terrible service and worse quality food. Worst we've ever had in Lucca after 20 years of visits? Yes, by a long shot. I hope this was an off night for them (I see other reviews are decent), but we'll certainly...

The same waitress seemed fascinated by our two dogs and she made sure that they had water to drink. We paid 30€ for the four of us and we were really grateful for this place to just sit and relax out of the glare of the sun.
Oh, the restrooms are downstairs in the main building - it was cool down there on account of the thick stone...
