Torre del Candeliere — Attraction in Massa Marittima

Been there in August 2025: I love it because it contains a lot of the city's history (establishment of the free municipality, conquest by Siena, etc..) and it's a remarkable example of engeneering skills back then with the bridge. From the top, you can enjoy a marvellous views of the countryside up to the sea and you realize how crucial the city was for controlling a vast area rich on mineral ore (including silver). Very impressive clock, bell and watch tower and a bridge! The Torre del Candeliere or Candlemaker’s Tower was built for the Massetani in 1228 after they become a free state. I guess you could call it a sort of present to themselves, an outward symbol of their independence.

…premetto che io ho visto solamente dall’esterno!!…questa Torre del Candeliere a Massa Marittima!!…è conosciuta anche come Torre dell’orologio!!…direi che si presenta molto bene!!…nonostante il passare degli anni!!…si dice che fu fatta costruire nel 1228!!…praticamente al tempo era una torre dí avvistamento!!…ma stava a significare anche la superiorità di Massa Marittima!!…che aveva da poco conquistato la libertà dal dominio del vescovo!!…l’orologio fu posizionato qualche anno dopo!!…e era il primo orologio della città!!…sostituito poi altre volte!!…una volta era stato anche un dono del granduca Cosimo dei Medici!!…anni dopo in aggiunta alla torre fu costruita la fortezza!!…praticamente sarebbe il Cassero Senese!!…che fu collegata alla torre tramite un arco!!…la Torre del Candeliere rientra tra i musei della rete museale provinciale di Musei di Maremma!!…la torre è visitabile all’interno!!…e è uno dei monumenti più visitati della Maremma!!…al piano rialzato si trova la biglietteria e la biblioteca!!…e si arriva fino all’ultimo piano!!…poi si può arrivare anche in cima dove si trova la campana in ferro!!…e da qui si ha una vista spettacolare della città dall’alto!!…e poi si può anche attraversare l’arco per arrivare alla fortificazione del Cassero Senese!!…che dire!!…una gran bella e storica costruzione!!…è la Torre del Candeliere!!..a Massa Marittima!!…Toscana da...
