Museo Dante — Attraction in Ravenna

Long story short: looks like a nice museum, doesn't actually close at 18:00. Please change your advertising to reflect the actual closing time of 17:30.

As an aspiring Dante scholar, this looked like a very thoughtful and interesting museum connected to the tomb of the divine poet. Unfortunately, as an international student with limited time in Ravenna, I was dismayed to learn that the museum doesn't actually close at 18:00. You're allowed to stay inside until then, but they really stop selling tickets at 17:30. This is not reflected ANYWHERE on the museum's advertising, neither online nor on the poster-board outside the entrance. Very disappointing. Really wanted to support this museum, but I'm not sure when I'll be back—if ever. Wish I could...

I usually don't rate sites other than restaurants, but I think this hidden gem at the heart of Ravenna should be in everyone's radar, especially if you have heard about or read Dante's Divine Comedy. The museum lovingly details Dante's tragic life and his inspiration to write his famous poems. The story is represented with audio visuals, with sufficient material in English for non-Italians to follow (though the poem itself is recited in Italian).

When we were there in early November, there were barely anyone in the museum, but I believe it is a must see for those who know Dante...

Il Museo Dante è un museo interattivo e multimediale, che di certo, piacerebbe alle famiglie con bambini grandi e adolescenti. Si tratta di un’esperienza moderna e fresca, che vale la pena provare. Noi abbiamo acquistato i biglietti in loco: ci si dirige alla Casa di Dante, si osservano le prime stanze, e poi ci si sposta nel museo che ha la parte multimediale e interattiva. Noi l’abbiamo fatta velocemente, perché avevamo prenotato altre attrazioni a Ravenna con orari precisi, per cui non abbiamo potuto godercela appieno. Ci sarebbe molto da vedere e da ascoltare, quindi il museo potrebbe prendervi un po’ di tempo, se avete voglia di visitarlo con attenzione, senza perdervi niente. Costo biglietto: 5€ intero

Se state programmando due giorni a Ravenna vi consiglio di vedere il primo giorno tutti i monumenti con i mosaici, mentre il secondo giorno lo dedicherei a Dante, visitando il Museo Dante, la tomba di Dante, la Basilica di San Francesco dove si sono celebrati i funerali e perché no, anche la Cripta Rasponi e i giardini pensili (controllate bene gli orari) che trovate nella piazza affianco, da parte...
