Civic Museums of Udine — Attraction in Udine

Another terrible museum. Consider the photography museum. Display descriptions are placed below the exhibits, are small, and are white text on a pale blue background. In one case the description was hidden behind it's exhibit. All this in a low light environment. The exhibits, mainly small prints, are unremarkable and do not seem to be chosen with any theme in mind. There are a few camera/enlarger exhibits but very run of the mill. Really poor exhibit.

The a Ancient art side may be better, but again the documentation is small and placed in shadow areas.

Time to call in a professional to knock...

Very nice museum, consists of 4 parts (archeology, Risorgimento, art gallery, and photography).

Plan at least to spend one hour.

English information is partly available, but I recommend to use Google lens to translate the Italian signs.

Il Museo Archeologico è ospitato al piano terra dell’ala est del Castello ed è stato inaugurato con un nuovo allestimento nel 2013. L’attuale criterio espositivo si snoda in un percorso di carattere storico il quale, anche grazie al contributo della multimedialità, mette in luce il carattere collezionistico della ricerca archeologica tra fine dell’800 e primi anni del ‘900. Il percorso è articolato in sei sale dedicate all’interesse e alle attività di collezionisti e eruditi friulani ed espone reperti che vanno dai vasi magnogreci, ai corredi funerari protostorici, romani e altomedievali. L’intento è quello di illustrare il risultato di una curiosità intellettuale e personale spesso dettata dalla ricerca del pezzo raro e di valore estetico, più che di ricerca...
