Was this city the Roman Sodom? It is known that Baiae was a hedonistic city and a kind of Las Vegas of the time. It was the capital of debauchery and vice.⁣ The city of sin was located about 30 km from Naples. ⁣

⁣

The rich and powerful among the Roman elite flocked to this city to satisfy their whims and to parties on the beach where wine and fun flowed. ⁣ ⁣

⁣

It was condemned by moralists such as Seneca for the pleasant, refined and vicious life that was led there. Cicero called it "Rome in miniature" and considered it a place of vice and perdition. ⁣ ⁣

⁣

Now his remains are partying under the waves in an underwater archaeological park that can be visited with glass bottom boats, snorkeling or diving. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

⁣

Apart from the underwater archaeological park of Baiae, there are several Roman ruins to see over the sea. The Temple of Mercury, the Temple of Venus and the Temple of Diana are its most popular places⁣. ⁣

⁣

Baiae was also famous for its medicinal hot springs and healing minerals. Spas were easily built. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

⁣

Nero, Cicero, Caligula or Caesar, among many others, visited the city and several of them built permanent vacation villas there. ⁣ ⁣

⁣

The city was sacked by a Muslim army in the 8th century. In 1500, the remains of the ancient luxurious city were abandoned. After the remains of the city were emptied, the water level slowly rose due to underground volcanic activity and most of the ancient ruins drowned under the shallow waters...

Lost for more than seventeen centuries under the blue waters of the western coast of Italy, the sunken city of Caesar, Baiae, was frequently visited by famous Roman Caesars such as Julius Caesar, Nero and Hadrian, who died there during its heyday. The villas that emerged or were still submerged, temples showed the wealth of this region and for centuries it was considered one of the most important Roman cities. Pliny the Younger lived here, and from here, across the bay, it remained the sunken ancient city after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum. It was discovered 1700...

Wasnt my first time diving l, but was my first time diving in open water and on a tour. I was on the "discover diving" bundle which was two dives an hour or so apart. The gear was well used but only had minor issues such as poor seal on goggles, or goggles that wouldnt seal. Nothing I could deal with but I would rather not have to constantly perform a drill every 5 mins. Still, a positive experience and I would go...

Great experience however low visibility on the day we went Aug 10th. You do see ruins. The Roman floors are the best thing to see. This dive shop is difficult to locate as it is at a resort on the beach side of the railroad so you have to walk through the pedestrian tunnel to get there. Park in the parking lot for the beach goers North of it and walk back.
