The hotel is beautifully set out and the views fabulous. We hired a car which meant that we could explore the surrounding areas which are rich with history, idyllic coves and traditional small harbours. However, the hotel does offer a shuttle bus which operates from morning to early evening. Yet, on one evening when we had used the local train service, we were delayed and didn't arrive back until 9:30pm. Therefore, we rang the hotel on the off chance they could collect us from the station and they responded with 'no problem' and appeared 10 minutes later! ||The hotel is set on a hill which although charming is rather isolated and hence is far from any other restaurants. Therefore, you need to rely on the shuttle service or have a car at your disposal. ||The staff in the hotel were extremely helpful. At one point my husband had a bad swelling bite on his leg and they arrived with a bag of ice to cool it! However, many of the staff had limited English yet we always managed to get along with a smile and our even more limited Italian.||We eat at the restaurant a few times and were not disappointed, the food was exceptional as was the local wine and brandy. We believed this is highlighted by how many local Italians seemed to frequent the restaurant too. ||Several reviews on this site have stated that this is a 'wedding hotel' which it is most definitely with a reception most days. However, this didn't spoil our time due to the hotel being on several levels with equally fantastic views from the choice of restaurants. ||Similar unrivalled views can be found on the roof terrace with spa which was often empty and always peaceful.||Finally, our room had a combined balcony view of the local harbour, some sea and the garden. The room was clean and well maintained. Furthermore, the large double bed was exceptionally comfy! Unfortunately the bathroom was extremely small which resulted in there being a squeeze between the sink and actual toilet. Therefore, I would question how a larger person would have managed? ||The only frustrating thing about the hotel if you are happy with the location and weddings ( which we were!) is the car parking which was often dominated by the wedding guests meaning cars had to be moved around regularly.||Overall a good experience with a wealth of places to visit within a two hour radius. For example, Naples, Pompeii and highly recommended a ferry trip from Pozzuli to Ischia, a beautiful island approximately an hours ferry ride away. Also, try to visit the nearby thermae Spa, down the hill, which the hotel can dive you to and provide a slight reduction.( a whole day 28 euros,...
Read moreI have stayed here multiple times in the last 10 years. Probably will not stay there again. Understand that if you stay here you are staying in a run-of-the-mill hotel that is mostly a separate business from the 4+ star restaurant. And the restaurant and its non-stop events take precedent. Hotel guests are second to restaurant guests, especially if you try to park your car there (with the incredibly rude parking specialists - some of them are).
While the rooms have fantastic views, they are plain and unremarkable. In fact, the renovated rooms are worse than the prior old ones. The old ones had charming things like tile floors and pretty bathrooms while the new ones are a modern, faux-stylish boring, cold décor, with horribly dark, boring bathrooms – dark due to dark walls and floors, and due to lack of sufficient lighting.
The restaurant has a fantastic view and good service and food, but again, if you are a hotel guest, you take a back seat to event guests, and there are events every day and every night.
What made my last stay in June 2019 “bad” was the very cold, if not rude desk clerk. Though there are three different ones, and one is very nice, the one that is cold, uncaring and unhelpful seemed to have been there the whole time. I was confirmed in my thinking of her rudeness when I witnessed another hotel guest return to her room from the clerk’s desk and state to her spouse “unfortunately it was the mean woman who was there again….”
Bottom line: you will not go wrong staying here, and will likely enjoy it. But there are many things lacking, especially customer service for hotel guests as opposed to...
Read moreMy husband and I have had many holidays in Italy this is the first time I feel compelled to write a review as bad as the experience in this hotel. We stayed a week in this place.||This is a venue for weddings, if your there for a holiday don’t go your in their way!||The staff are unhelpful and miserable. ||I asked if there were any buses near by and was told ‘No’ we went for a walk and there was a bus stop at the end of the road.||The restaurant is closed if there’s a big wedding going on, so if you have no transport you would need to pay €35 there and back if you want to eat in the evening. I would say it’s a rather limited menu choice in the restaurant.||The hotel pictures show a swimming pool, but it’s where the weddings are held so you can’t go there. In fact they don’t want you anywhere near the guests if ||there’s a wedding going.||On arrival/departure there is no help offered to get your bags up/down 3 flights of stairs.||The final insult was from the receptionist when we left. We paid our bill, she did not say thank you, hope you had a good stay or even say goodbye. ||I’m so angry.||The only saving grace was the breakfast waiter and the driver of the shuttle bus Salvatore. You need that shuttle bus to get to the beach and back but only during the day, evening.||A stunning location and a beautiful hotel but we were...
