I knew was a very small scale museum, so my expectation was relatively low before going in. To my surprise, the museum turned out to be a trove of local arts. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the arts displayed. There were only a few of us walking through the galleries when I visited. There is a plenty of place to park around the museum if you are driving. Too bad that they didn’t allow photography, so I have no photos...

When I went there was various exhibits for a children's author group - ザキャビンカンパニー. The exibits were interactive and children there with their families had a great time playing with the exhibits. I'm told its usually not so interractive. The staff were lovely, one woman in particular was very helpful and spoke English very well. Thank you!

2023.7.15来訪 「顕神の夢 霊性の表現 超越的なもののおとずれ」展を鑑賞。 「芸術とは宗教の母である」と生前述べていたという大本教の出口なお、出口王仁三郎の書から展示が始まる。大本教は高張和巳の小説「邪宗門」で知った。国家から弾圧を受け、抵抗した「反権力」の姿勢が当時の学生運動を展開していた学生に受け入れられていたという。 霊性の表現というだけあって自動書記的な作品の展示が多い。 テーマがマイナーなだけに、作家も初めて知る人が多かった。中には萬鉄五郎や関根正二、村山槐多、髙島野十郎の蝋燭などの展示もあるが、果たしてこれらを霊性に結び付けるべきなのかどうか。 テーマはともかく関根正二、村山槐多の作品が観るだけでも価値のある展覧会である。 2022.7.16来訪 「リアルのゆくえ」展を鑑賞。 カメラが発明された近代において写実の存在価値とは何か。 カメラが発明される以前の肖像画は現代では似顔絵に代替えされている。 現代における写実は物（対象）と形而下の対話である。 ２階のロビーに作家のインタビューが収められている映像が流されているが、それを観ると現代アートと哲学の関係性について改めて考えさせられる。 本郷真也のイグアナの自在置物のみ撮影可能。 2022.4.9来訪 「生誕110年香月泰男展」を鑑賞。香月泰男と言えば自身の過酷な捕虜生活を描いたシベリアシリーズが有名だが、それ以外の作品も多く展示されている。 香月泰男の作品は「観る」というよりは「知覚する」ものであるが、展覧会の作品の「四重奏」に香月自身の面白い記述があった。「私は音楽を聞くのではなく見るのが好きである」香月泰男は音楽を見ているのだ。それと同じで私たちは香月の作品を観るのではなく、絵から生み出される自らの心象を捉えなければならない。 シベリアシリーズは抽象画に近い描写であるが、あまりに凄惨な体験を具体化するには美術は不適合な手段である。そのため、シリーズには本人の解説文を付けるという手段が用いられたが、果たしてこれは必要だったのだろうか。鑑賞する側に解釈を委ねたほうが良かったようにも思う。 展覧会の最後にある島根県の津和野の風景画があるが、訪れた人ならよく分かる津和野の雰囲気を良くとらえており、このようなデッサン力はさすがだと言える。
