Excellent local onsen housed inside a greenhouse!! No public bath, nine different private baths to choose from, each bath is named after flowers and has the relevant decoration. Shampoos provided, you need to bring your own towel, there is parking. Entrance before 17.00 ¥540 per person, after 17.00 ¥1620 per bath. You enter the main building where you pay and you can get your onsen stamp as well. The staff was extremely friendly. They have photos of each bath so you can choose which one you like, the photos with a small bath duckling or a miniature house on them mean that this bath is currently occupied (very cute!). After you pay you will be given a small wooden tag with the name of your bath which you will hang at the door before you enter showing that bath is occupied, of course you also lock from the inside. I chose the "sakura" (cherry) bath because it's the only one which has a steam sauna as well. Then you go out and enter the greenhouse next to it where are the baths! There are the toilets and a nice corridor full of plants and flowers. There is a small changing room with a sink and hair dryer. The sliding door to the bath, as it is real solid wood might be a bit heavy to slide so slide it from the bottom. The tub in the "sakura" bath was medium sized and really beautiful with shiny stones, plants and flowers. The water temperature was perfect with a bit of iron and sulfur minerals. There was a proper shower with hot and cold water to wash and wash off the sweat after the steam sauna. Steam sauna was excellent, space for 2-3 people, high ceiling and you can control the amount of steam through the lever inside (right swing less steam, left swing more steam), the steam has a sulfur smell. There is a thermometer outside the sauna informing you about the temperature inside. Facilities were very clean and spacious. After bathing you can get a steamed egg (two types, steamed for long or short time where the egg is softer) and they make their own steamed flan. Finally they have steamers next to the greenhouse where you can steam your own food paying ¥300 for the use of the steamer. Will be definitely going back to experience the other baths as well,...
Read moreI would highly recommend this onsen to anyone who has not done it before and is hesitant to go to a public bath. I spent a few days in Beppu by myself and really wanted to try onsen, so I desperately did some research to find one with private baths. I liked the fact that Hidamari only had private baths and was quite easy to get to from Beppu station. The male member of staff who recommended the room I chose was very nice. So was the lady who was on the desk when I was done an hour later. I really wish I had the time to go back again the following day. I’ll definitely come back to Beppu and come here again. It was extremely good value at only 600円 on a weekday afternoon. To have an entire bath to yourself for that price without having to book a fancy hotel is incredible.
The room itself is very comfortable. You slide the door closed, pull the lock down and you feel at peace knowing you can just take your time without anyone else around. There is space to get changed, a sink, hair dryer and some baskets. You go out of the changing area and there’s body wash, shampoo and conditioner to wash yourself with before going in the onsen. I’m not sure if they had any amenities available to buy but I bought my own...
Read moreThe front desk area is spacious and interesting to wait in. There are books and fish tanks and snacks, including onsen steam cooked eggs. Inside the baths, the water is hot and the price wasn't too bad, but the Sakura room was a little tacky. (Update: the "らん" room was not). The floors and walls were nice, but the greenhouse exterior was painted for privacy, and the paint is kinda chipping away. The rooms are very functional though. They have sinks and hair dryers in addition to the normal shower head and bath. The Sakura room even...
