Mongolian Invasion Historical Museum — Attraction in Fukuoka

Mongolian fighters’ first crossing of the ocean, their first encounter with Japanese samurais and ultimate demise under Kamikaze typhoons - For a history that fascinating, the museum is a bit underwhelming.

It’s all in Japanese, which isn’t an issue with Google translate, but the perspective is entirely nationalistic. It’s purely from the perspective of the gallantry of the samurais, very little mention of the context, the diplomatic missions that preceded the invasion, and how the Mongolians came to prepare for a sea voyage.

Also 1/3 of the museum is on a monk that supposedly predicted the invasion. My understanding is the monk’s Buddhist sect manages this museum which explains why.

However, it’s great that the museum exists at all. So if you’re as fascinated by this history as I am, don’t mind making a reservation ahead of time and paying a small fee, it might still be...

I travelled to Fukuoka to see the museum but it was closed during the daytime on a weekday, my girlfriend who is Japanese phoned a few times but no one picked up. This place is seamlingly out of business unfortunately.

Don't want to give it a 1 star as I didn't experience it but maybe it should be...

電話がなかなかつながらないというクチコミもありますが、私は一回でつながりました。ただ、受付の方は身延山福岡別院の売店の売り子を兼務されてるみたいなので、売店に人がいない時はつながらないことがあるかもしれません。

展示内容は40年前のタイムカプセルのような感じです。元軍の鎖帷子や下村観山の"蒙古調伏曼荼羅授与之図"など、初めて見たものもありましたし、シャッターを目の前で開けてもらってから入館するというなかなかすることのない体験もできたので面白かったですが、正直、展示の半分は日蓮宗絡みで、元寇について特別理解が深まるという感じでもないので、いっそ九州国立博物館か福岡市博物館、名護屋城博物館に寄託してほしいと思いました。

入館料は以前の￥300から￥500に値上げされているようです。福岡は古墳時代から遺跡がたくさんあるおかげか、無料の博物館などでもかなり充実した展示内容の施設が多くあるので、正直見劣りはします。昭和生まれよりあと...
