I spent 3 nights at the Daienin, my first time staying in a temple, and a unforgettable memory. The morning meditation starts at 5.45 and was beautiful to start the day with. The food, multiple course vegan kaiseki, was tasty and things I never tried before and probably won't find anywhere else. Apparently its very special way of cooking only few are trained. Even though I don't speak Japanese and the monks speak hardly any English, everyone was super nice and welcoming. One of the assistants spoke great English and explained things about food and culture in more detail. This is a very strict temple so be aware that dinner is served strictly at 5:30, bath time is from 4:30 to 8:30 and after that everyone seemed to quiet down in his room. Perfect if you plan like me to give your mind time to quit down. The room in traditional Japanese style was very clean and spacious. I had a great view on the beautiful garden from the second floor. A short walk to all the temples and Okunoin graveyard, it's great place to explore the magic of this place. I could walk over to the graveyard at night and early morning and can't say what was more beautiful. As as the monk that welcomed me gave me little gift and waved me goodbye, I wish I could have stayed longer at...

I have been looking forward to Koyasan Shukubo for a long time. Only Dayuanyuan has a room when I book three months in advance. The room is on the second floor, clean and spacious, with a faint fragrance of tatami mats, but the toilet and shower are shared. Time, one or two days is acceptable, long time is not enough. Breakfast and dinner are included in the room rate, all vegetarian meals, light and delicious, and full. Dayuanyuan Temple is considered a small temple in Koyasan. There is no night tour Okunoin Temple here. I have to go to Keikoin Temple to make an appointment. I saw the introduction of scripture copying and meditation at the front desk on the Internet, but when I asked, I didn’t know why. Brother Monk is generally not very patient in English. When I checked out, I saw me going down the stairs with a big box and was indifferent... This is much better in Huiguangyuan. Even if I don’t live there, I will ask when I want to make an appointment to visit. help. Strongly recommend Huiguangyuan's night tour Okunoin project, the explanation is great! Full...

Dai'en-in is one of the many temples in Koyasan that offers overnight stays. Compared to some of the other temples I've walked past it seems to be a slightly more budget-friendly version. The room was spacious, clean and everything needed for a good night's sleep was there. Breakfast and dinner were included and were vegetarian. Expect nothing special. Staff were friendly, though English was super limited and there was hardly any contact with the monks. Not even during dinner of breakfast. The morning ceremony was small (3 monks) without any explanation provided about what was going on. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and it was a very nice and quiet lodging. But the 'temple experience' wasn't really there for me. It felt more like a relatively large guesthouse and quite impersonal. If you're looking for a decent accomodation to stay overnight in Koyasan I can recommend it. If you're looking for true temple experience, maybe some of the other locations (Eko-in looked great) offer a little more.

I stayed here as a solo female traveller and really enjoyed it. The monks can speak a little English and are very polite and helpful. My bedding was heated and very comfortable, and my room had a great view of the courtyard. I had the onsen all to myself when I bathed at 430pm. The bath is fantastic to heat up in during winter when it is really cold outside. Dinner and breakfast were big trays with a variety of delicious food. The morning prayer was interesting to watch, and they explained at the end what it meant. The convenient location allowed me to do the Okunoin night tour that leaves from Eko-in temple. I had just enough time to walk back before the curfew at 9 pm. It was a very close call, though. You need to walk very fast or catch the bus.

It's a nice temple lodge with friendly monk that knows enough English to communicate. The vegetarian foods are simple and healthy but my girlfriend complained it's cold. It's close to the town centre and also Okunoin in walking distance. We had a room with private toilets and a garden view for 3 days 2 nights. The bath is nice and clean. The room air conditioning is good because the autumn nights are cold which can drop to below 5 Celsius degrees. To book, just go through the Koyasan Shukubo association form or email them your requirements. It's quite an easy process. Also, if you want your hot water refill and futon made up. Don't lock your doors when you are out.
