An exceptional museum featuring an extensive collection of Kuniyoshi's works. Some truly exemplary supernatural scenes and warriors prints. I particularly enjoyed the pieces depicting Yoshitsune/Ushiwakamaru training with Sojobo, or those works depicting the Taira ghosts sunken in Daimotsu Bay. The collection itself is complemented by its setting: a beautifully restored inn overlooking Kurashiki's historical quarter. You can feel the abundance of care put into both the curation of pieces and their presentation. I was also flattered to speak with the owner and museum director, who has an obvious love both of Ukiyo-e (and Kuniyoshi in particular) and Kurashiki.

Many wonderful pieces by Utagawa Kuniyoshi on display as well as a room of some of his followers works. As a tattoo haver and enthusiast, this was an incredible experience. The works are rich and incredibly detailed and you can get up close and experience each. Explanations of the themes of each work in Japanese and English. Plan to spend at least an hour here as reading each and every description is very interesting! One of the highlights of my...
