Matsudo Central Park — Attraction in Matsudo

It is a nice green spot in the center of the city. It has HUGE pine trees, a historical area, and the children love to play there after school. They climb the trees and play soccer in the sunken "ships" area, which is supposed to symbolize the sea with ships in it. There are sage bushes, some traditional edible plants, and some beautiful wild areas, as well as eucalyptus donated by the sister city of White horse in Australia. There is a large open area where I have seen people play baseball and picnic, and also where events are held. There are tennis courts, too. I hope that they upgrade the bathrooms and the playground soon, but these two aspects are not enough to lower it from five stars. 松戸駅東口を出て、正面にイトーヨーカドーの建物がありますが、その建物の裏側の丘の上に松戸中央公園があります。 イトーヨーカドーの中を通り抜けることは出来ないようで、松戸駅から行く場合はヨーカドーの建物を回って上る必要があります。

ここは、かつては相模台城というお城があった場所だそうです。遺構らしきものは見つけられませんでしたが、道路を挟んで隣接する相模台公園との間にある道路は空堀だったのかもしれないと想像してしまいます。 戦国時代には、この辺りで小田原北条氏と安房里見氏の間で「国府台の戦い」という激戦があったようです。

また、ここにはかつて松戸競馬場（船橋市の中山競馬場の前身）があり、その跡地に工兵の高度な技術研修教育のために「陸軍工兵学校」が大正8年に開校し、終戦の昭和20年8月に閉校しました。 公園の入口にある煉瓦造りの正門は、大正9年に造られたもので、市内に残る数少ない煉瓦建造物です。
