This location holds significant importance for Catholics as the martyrdom site of the 26 Martyrs of Nagasaki. 長崎県営バスターミナル、長崎電気軌道の長崎駅前電停から、徒歩約５分とは書いていますが、NHK長崎放送局の横のかなり急な坂を登ります。 かつてここは長崎に潜伏するカトリックの宣教師を処刑する刑場で、安土桃山時代に処刑されたキリシタンやスペイン人のカトリック宣教師の26人のレリーフがありレリーフには見づらいですが、殉教者の名前と、処刑前に言い残した言葉をスペイン語で書かれていて、レリーフの裏は26聖人記念館で、26聖人と呼ばれるカトリック教徒が処刑されるまで持っていた遺留品や安土桃山時代〜江戸時代の潜伏キリシタンの生活と、逮捕されて雲仙の地獄に連行され、責め苦を受けるキリシタンの絵などを見学できる資料館になっています。 ※展示内容は変わることがあります。 資料館の向かい側に二本の煙突のような屋根がある教会があります。ここの教会の建設中に殉教した人の遺骨が出てきたそうです。公園ですが礼拝施設に準じるので、ワンちゃんの散歩の時はレリーフや建物におしっこをさせないように注意してください。また、公園内のレリーフや施設に落書きしたり破損したりすると、器物破損に加え、礼拝施設への不敬罪になります。カトリック教徒の巡礼地にもなっているようで、外国人も多いようです。 朝は観光客も少なく、近隣の人の散歩コース...
