Visiting the Otaru Music Box Museum is like stepping into a timeless world filled with charm and nostalgia. Located in the picturesque town of Otaru, Hokkaido, this enchanting museum is a must-visit for anyone with an appreciation for delicate craftsmanship and melodic treasures.

The museum itself is housed in a beautiful historic building with a vintage ambiance that perfectly complements its collection. As you step inside, you're greeted by the gentle sounds of countless music boxes playing in harmony, creating an atmosphere both soothing and magical.

The extensive collection showcases a dizzying variety of music boxes, ranging from classic antique models to modern, intricately designed pieces. Each display tells a story, reflecting the rich history and evolution of these musical marvels. Particularly delightful are the hand-crafted glass music boxes and unique designs that are exclusive to this museum.

One of the highlights is the workshop area, where visitors can create their own custom music box. This hands-on experience allows you to choose the melody and design, making for a perfect personalised souvenir.

The museum also features a well-stocked gift shop with an array of exquisite music boxes, perfect for gifts or keepsakes. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall pleasant experience.

Overall, the Otaru Music Box Museum offers a delightful blend of history, artistry, and interactive fun. It's a serene and enchanting stop that leaves you with both beautiful melodies and...

We hope to give 4 stars as we enjoyed the workshop but only if the girls were friendlier and helpful. Unfortunately traveling almost 2hours for this type of service. A short hair girl was really rude. She sighed when we don’t understand her instruction which was not even proper instruction until her colleague came over to help showed us. We hope they understand. We could not understand them and it’s vice versa. She is in service line and really need to see if this is the career she wants to pursue … It’s really sad that we left with not so...

We were supposed to visit the Otaru Music Box Museum but ended up got attracted by the countless music box products at the main hall that we ended up with shopping & buying music box instead 😅

Be mentally prepared to squeeze with all the tourists in the crowded main hall and just be careful not to break any items as they are all not cheap 😥

Was hoping to join a DIY session to make my own music box but I think this place is too commercialized that they rather sell the ready made ones as is...

Large music box store with a large variety of music boxes and souvenirs. Three floors of inventory, with similar items sometimes grouped together. There is even a made in Japan section. Friendly helpful staff, English can be understood, clean washrooms in the back. There is also a steam clock outside that is built by the same person who built the one in Gastown, Vancouver, Canada, which plays a tune every 15minutes. Worth a look if you are in town.
