TLDR: Do NOT choose this hotel if you want a proper sleep at Otaru
I recently had the opportunity to stay at Authent Hotel Otaru and wanted to share my overall experience. While there were some positive aspects of my stay, I must also highlight a significant inconvenience that affected my overall enjoyment.
Upon arriving at the hotel on 4th April 2024, I was informed by the staff about a scheduled maintenance that would result in a blackout at midnight. Unfortunately, this information was not communicated to me prior to my arrival or during the booking process. It would have been helpful to know about this in advance so that I could have made appropriate arrangements.
The blackout itself was not the only issue. The light and noise associated with the restoration of electricity at 3 am further disrupted our sleep quality, making it difficult to fully enjoy our stay. What disappointed me the most was the lack of proactive measures or suggestions provided by the staff to minimize the inconvenience caused by the maintenance. Their casual and dismissive attitude towards the situation added to our frustration.
As a guest, I believe that respect and consideration for comfort and well-being are essential. Unfortunately, the handling of this situation fell short of those expectations. The lack of prior notice and the inadequate response from the staff reflect poorly on the level of service provided by Authent Hotel Otaru.
Overall the experience of the stay was awful and I definitely do not recommend staying...

Upon check-in, we were informed about a scheduled maintenance that included a blackout at midnight. However, this information was only provided at check-in without any prior notice. As a result, from 1 am to 3 am, all electric appliances were turned off, except for the emergency light. Shockingly, the emergency light turned out to be the brightest and most central light in the room. They only told us emergency lights will be on, but did not tell us that emergency light is actually the light in the center of the room. I could not sleep at all, as the glaring light made it nearly impossible to rest comfortably.
The staff was casual and dismissive when telling us the issue. Their lack of acknowledgement of the severity of the issue was completely unprofessional. They did not communicate the issue in advance nor offer any apologies.
Additionally, the hotel room itself was old and poorly maintained. The lighting was dim, and it was astonishing how the emergency lights were brighter than all other normal lights in the room.
The bed, claimed to be a queen size bed, is only 140 cm long. The TV was terribly small - my laptop has a larger screen than the tv
The hotel's location is also far from the station.
I strongly advise against choosing this hotel for your stay. At the same price you can find a better...

I have spent a time in a hotel all over the world, France, Germany, U.K., Austria, Italy, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and more.
This hotel was not a gorgeous hotel, but it offers you a sincere service, the room I spent was super clean. Cleanness is very important to me.
Breakfast was a buffet style. They had a beef stew. It was AWESOME!!! You should try it.
Surprisingly, they had Japanese style public bath on the 3rd floor. The men’s and women’s baths are separated. You should check-in at the counter. The clerk gives you a locker key for storing your clothes. The bathroom has a more than 6 showers beside the big bath. Each shower area has a shampoo, conditioner, and body soap.
If you use a bath, please wash your body with soap with shower first and take a bath. That’s Japanese etiquette/ manner to take a bath.
I really enjoyed my stay in this great hotel. If I come back to Otaru, I will definitely come back to...
