Oyamazaki Sanso is a wonderful example of a private mansion during the meiji period of Japan. On site is also a nice collection of Monet paintings. Definitely worth a visit. It is the former home of Shotaro Kaga who helped to found Nikka Whisky Distilling. His close friend, Tamesaburo Yamamoto, the first president of Asahi Breweries accepted a request from the Oyamazaki government to restore it after his death. Asahi Breweries decided in partnership with government bodies to restore the villa back to its original condition and regenerate it as an art museum.

The main house is a beautiful old building and the people who renovated it did an amazing job. The café is one of the best museum cafés I've eaten at.
There's a free shuttle that takes visitors from the Hankyu and JR stations.
Backpacks are not allowed in the museum so you'll have to stow yours in a coin locker in the small building on the driveway that leads up...
