Hachioji Yume Art Museum — Attraction in Tokyo

They have a stunning display of Art Nouveau from Alphonse Mucha that showcases his unique ability to blend intricate designs with commercial marketing. His posters are vibrant, intricate, and filled with intricate details that catch the viewer's attention. From the delicate curves of the female form to the vibrant colors and bold fonts, his work is truly captivating.

One of my favorite examples of his commercial art is his work for LU cookie boxes. The intricate design and delicate details perfectly capture the essence of the product while also being aesthetically pleasing. Mucha's ability to create such stunning works of art that also function as advertisements is truly remarkable and has made him a master of his craft.

This exhibit is one of many that I have visited in Japan. I've also been to the ones that are in Sakai and Osaka. Out of these three exhibits this one in hachioji has the most of Mucha's commercial product design, things like menus, boxes, postcards and even displays some of the lithograph plates for the postcards. Another unique to hachioji collection is Mucha's drawings of everyday life and items. His car study of the world around him includes pictures of combs, chandelier , coffee pots, couches, plants and everything else you could think...

八王子市夢美術館で開催中の アート展『デミタスカップの愉しみ』を見てきました🫖

「デミタス」とは、 濃いめのコーヒーを飲むための 小さなカップのこと。

清少納言の枕草子に 「何も何も、小さきものは、みなうつくし」 と書き記されたように、 小さなサイズはとても可愛らしく その世界観に魅了され続けました🌹✨

19世紀のヨーロッパは テーブルウェアの発展や コーヒー・カフェ文化が浸透。

持ち運びに適したコンパクトなサイズ感と、 当時、チョコレート飲料は 王侯貴族だけの嗜好品だった位置付けが関係し

デミタスカップには高級感があり、 最も小さな陶磁器として人気の製品になったそうなのです。

デミタスカップの多くが 一個製作、一個販売が基本だったので 職人技が光り、質の高い創造性の輝く逸品がズラリ。

村上和美さんのコレクションを中心に 参考資料も含め、約340点ご紹介されています。

コップの中に広がる美しいアートの世界。

展示会のパネルで 〝デザインの大冒険〟 というメッセージが書かれている通り、 まさに限られた範囲に表現されている デザインが豊かに広がっています。

たくさんの作り手がいる中で 私は二度も『カール・ティーメ』の作品が 目に留まりました。

ローズが上品に描かれていたり、 形をとられていたり。

自分が好きなブランドを知ることも 一つの見どころですが、 この展示会のイチオシポイントは コレクターの村上さんのコメントです🌹

デミタスへの愛情が伝わってくる 村上さんのコメントが添えられている作品を じっくり拝見する中で、

透かし彫りの名工として ジョージ・オーウェン（George Owen）氏を 存じ上げることができたのも とても勉強になりました。

コメントがなかったらただ 「綺麗だな」 と感じるだけで終わってしまっていた作品が 名工と書かれていることにより別の見方になり…

「そもそもこの美しさを作ることが どれほどの技術を要するんだろう？」 と視野を広げてくれました。

お色味の組み合わせも ピンクとミントグリーンに感銘を受けていること、

カップを「宝石箱」と 喩えていらっしゃること、

コーヒーを淹れると中が見えないのに 中までこだわっている職人さんの感性があること。

The ticket price was much higher in person than it was on the website, and I'm not sure why. The gallery was also much smaller than I expected for such a high ticket price.
