Ikebukuro Mitake Shrine — Attraction in Tokyo

Owl has been the community symbol of Ikebukuro. Owl in Japanese is Fukurō. The word fukuro is synonym for “fukurou” in Japanese which means protection from hardship. “Fu” meaning no, and “kurou” meaning hardship.

Mitake Shrine located in a quiet residential area has two statues of owl families erected providing good health, good luck, safe birth and happiness to the community.

災難除、厄除き、防災にご利益がある神社です。 池袋のパワースポットとして有名です。初詣にも人気ですが、それ以外にも、安産祈願、七五三、成人祭、新年祈願、工事安全など個人祈願から法人祈願でも多くの方が訪れています。

住宅街の中にあるので、混まずに落ち着いて参拝できます。 私は毎年おみくじを引いて、お守りを手帳に入れています。今年はフクロウ！去年は亀でした🐢大切にします。

Praying for the family's health, I visited the shrine for the New Year. ⛩️

Known as a power spot in Ikebukuro, this shrine is believed to have benefits for disaster prevention, warding off misfortune, and overall disaster preparedness. Popular for New Year's visits, it also attracts many visitors for various individual and corporate prayers, such as prayers for safe childbirth, Shichi-Go-San (celebration for children of specific ages), Coming of Age ceremonies, New Year's prayers, and construction safety.

Located in a residential area, it allows for a calm and less crowded visit. Every year, I draw a fortune and keep the amulet in my planner. This year, it's an owl! Last year was a turtle 🐢, and...

🐺 御嶽神社と書いて、「おんたけ」と読ませるところと、「みたけ」と読ませるところがあるのですが、ここ池袋は「みたけ」神社と読みます("おんたけ"系はどこかしらに山丸三紋が見られます)。境内はほどほどに広く、鳥居正面向かって本殿、社務所と授与所は左の別棟にあります。授与品は窓口で扱ってまして、願意一通り揃ってはいますが、ここは池袋なので、それに掛けて、フクロウのお守りも置いてあります(誰もいないときは、カウンターのピンポン押すとどなたか出てきます)。この、フクロウのお守りを置いている神社は決して少なくありません。都内でも、自由が丘の熊野神社では(熊野さまなんだから八咫烏にすればいいのに)フクロウのオリジナル刺繡入りお守りを出していますし、栃木県野木町の野木神社は境内にフクロウが飛来して棲み着いたことがきっかけで、今では何から何までフクロウ一色の神社になってしまいました。ですから、フクロウ守りコレクターにとっては、この御嶽さまも欠かせない神社でございます。ただ、せっかくの御嶽さまなんだから、大口真神(おおぐちまがみ/狼)の信仰も捨てがたいので、ここは一つ、令和のオオカミ様の護符でも新たにデザインを起こして印刷すれば、火盗除けで１体1,000円でも売れると思います。ここの神社、昇殿でお祓いやってるんですが、トイレが無いようです。道挟んだ向かいの図書館にトイレがあるので、とくに混雑する秋口、七五三のちびっ子たち、クルマに轢かれないように(そのためには、まず、交通安全のお守りを買う)道を渡って、図書館のトイレでお...
