Sumida Aquarium, located right inside Tokyo Skytree, is a fantastic experience for everyone, whether you're visiting with kids or, like me, an adult who simply loves aquariums. The location makes it incredibly easy to access, especially if you're already exploring the Skytree area. While the aquarium definitely has a kid-friendly vibe, with interactive displays and exhibits that younger visitors would love, I still found plenty to enjoy as an adult. The variety of marine life is impressive, with a mix of species that kept us engaged the whole time.
We spent about an hour wandering through the exhibits, taking the time to read all the information and really appreciate the beauty of the fish. The tanks are well-maintained and offer great views from different angles, allowing you to feel close to the marine life. One fun and quirky feature is their food and drink offerings, which include drinks with cute penguin-shaped ice cubes—such a fun touch that added to the overall experience.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming, making the visit even more pleasant. Another bonus is how spacious the aquarium is. Even though it's a popular spot, it never felt crowded, and there’s plenty of room outside for strollers, which is a thoughtful convenience for families. If you're visiting Tokyo Skytree, I highly recommend stopping by Sumida Aquarium. It's a great way to relax and enjoy some peaceful time with marine life, no...
Read moreIt was a short and sweet experience for us. Although the aquarium doesn't have a wide variety of aquatic life, its main attractions are the adorable penguins and seals at the facility's center. One of the most impressive features is the mesmerizing collection of jellyfish, beautifully displayed under well placed lighting. An hour is sufficient to explore the entire aquarium; my son thoroughly enjoyed every moment, and we had to stay longer than planned. Additionally, the aquarium has some engaging craft activities for kids. It's advisable to bring along snacks and drinks for the little ones, as the cafeteria often has long lines. The aquarium is easily accessible for baby carts and wheelchairs. The only downside is that it is a bit pricier compared to other aquariums in terms of its scale and collections.
Additionally, the Solamachi Mall has a lot more to offer kids on the 4th and 5th floors, including a couple of play zones, arcades, an animal farm, and a Konica Planetarium. The 6th and 7th floors have a wide range of reasonably priced food options. You could easily plan and spend an entire day with your family here, provided you do not include the Skytree Tower...
Read moreVisited Sumida Aquarium inside Tokyo Skytree Town on a breezy afternoon, and it felt like stepping into an underwater dream. The place is modern, sleek, and surprisingly peaceful despite being in such a busy spot. What really makes it special is how close you can get to the tanks—no crowded barriers, just glass and glowing blue light wrapping around you.
Even if your kids don’t understand Japanese, they’ll love it here—most of the exhibits are visual and interactive, from the elegant jellyfish drifting like slow-motion fireworks to the playful penguins splashing around in their open-air pool. The layout flows beautifully, with soft lighting and gentle music that make you want to linger at every corner.
There’s a small café where you can rest with a Skytree view, and the souvenir shop has some of the cutest ocean-themed gifts in Tokyo. It’s not the biggest aquarium, but every detail feels thoughtful and calm—more like an art gallery of sea life.
Perfect for families or couples looking for a relaxing, beautifully designed aquarium—especially convenient if you’re already visiting...
