Ranked No 134 among Japanese castles, the Toyama castle has an important mention in the medieval history in Japan. It’s a flatland type castle that was ruled by Jinbo clan under Oda Nobunaga. Later it was ruled by the Maeda clan. The castle was affected by natural disasters like earthquake and was also gutted entirely by fire at one time. The current structure was rebuilt in 1952 on the ruins of the original castle. There are interesting seals like the “kaon” used by the ruler and rare paper letters used by aristocracy. Some of the stone is so big that you can't imagine how they carried them from the river over 10km away. A gate located in the east is also amazing. Serendipity and occasionally you will also hear cranes communicating to one another. This is an unforgettable experience for me as I hardly had this rare opportunity watching these birds not one, but more than 30s, resting on the tree branches.
