Very nice castle. We didn’t find nearby parking so we parked near a supermarket and walked to the castle (we later bought some food at the store…). There’s a toilet near the entrance by the tourist information centre, but also inside. There’s also a cafeteria inside but we didn’t try it. The grounds of the castle are beautiful and well kept, and it was so pretty now during the autumn season! You can climb the old tower with a lamp (a real one), but you’re better suited with your phone’s lamp/torch fonction. Also, be careful, some steps are narrow and slippery. Wouldn’t come with children, I believe it’s too dangerous for them. When you exit, go down the stairs in the direction of the lake, it’s so beautiful! There’s a little kiosk selling coffee and little snacks and you can maybe find someone playing live music as it was our case. Beautiful!

Cēsis castle is simply beautiful. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I thought it would be a quick visit but we spent 2 hours. I was very impressed by the amount of interaction with the people working there. They have a cool games area where you can see and try ancient games, walking on sticks. There is a musician continuously playing traditional instruments and we had the chance of meeting a person re-enacting the trade of doing rosaries. Apparently on weekends there are more artisans. The animation in the masters chamber in the west tower is really well done. All in all huge applaud to the people working behind the scenes and the 2 friendly girls who worked the reception.

It's awesome place to see. There is plenty of stuff to do. You can go and see how some of old profesions look like in the past, you can try on armor parts what I found really cool. Everyone speaks English so you can have interesting conversation about past of the castle etc. The oldest part of the castle is without lights and outside the entrance there is nice granny who gives you candle lattern, so inside you can feel like in the old times. I felt like a kid walking around and discovering new parts of the castle, I'll not forget this trip for a long time :)

I cannot recommend this place enough. For the amount that you pay you get at least 2h worth of activities. Very good for kids as there is an outside area with different medieval games, a lot of information is written simply and understandably and a lot is interactive. Our favourite bit was the immersive surround multimedia experience in one of the tower rooms. Also during entrance you are given a lantern with a candle to help you through the dark rooms, this gives you a very authentic experience and is a nice touch. Will definitely be visiting again !

Great museum. Very interesting approach with candles to lighten your way while climbing to towers. It’s especially interesting for kids. In one of the towers there were a tower history video with 360 degree - similar to planetarium. It’s possible to visit 2 old castle towers, medieval garden and main museum. At moment when we visited in museum there were an exhibition called “Hallo” about communication and phones. Most interesting part were 2 old phones with circle pad, where you can call from one to other. Kid loved it. It was an amazing experience.
