Wow, a highlight for trip to Malta. NOT easy to get too, but there is a bus (74 from bus station in Valleta), not frequent, not fast but there is a bus. You do not need a car. In fact, even on a slow day in December, parking was non-existent both on top and down by the sea. (Malta has too many cars, just too many). Still bus ride is ~1hr from Valletta, add 1hr from near anywhere else on the island. Quite the ugly bus ride as well, past industrial area around the airport. But wow the coast is pretty.
Viewpoint from high up is spectacular, a bit scary if you go off the path, but on a clear day, absolutely beautiful (similar to Makarska/Croatia, and Kas/Turkey). ~500m walk down to the 'town', public WC (very nice), several decent cafe/restaurants and best of all, fast, small-boat ride (8E pp) around and inside the caves. Being this is Malta, I was expecting 15E pp (even churches charge you just as much as you can stand, but not so much you walk away...artfully done).
On a hot summer high-season day my guess the place is a mad-house. But on December, pretty quiet, almost serene, no line for boats, no line for restaurants, no line...
Read moreAmazing view of the Blue Grotto. Absolutely loved this place. Cannot highly recommend this place. Be careful where you park. We stopped in what looked like a lay by but turned out to be a bus stop and got a parking ticket. Many other cars do the same. If u get away with it then well done. I had to move the car after getting a ticket further down. It's an uphill 10mins walk from the car park. Parking is free but an old man "helps" you park, then expects money. Just ignore, park, and leave. He wears an official looking hat and badge...
