The peak is very impressive and you will see it long before you arrive at the hilly village at the base... HOWEVER be aware that is a prime day trip from nearby cities and on weekends is crowded with well heeled Mexicans all mugging for shots with the monolith in the background...it's all in good fun and it is what it is ( basically a tourist trap) the main drag through the town has a circus midway feel with barkers waving menus and shop after shop selling mostly to the same TCHOCKEYS (there are a few good buys on textiles and clothing) but it's mostly shot glasses mugs....there are on the edges some interesting sellers of minerals and crystals..it's loud and dusty with cruising teenage boys in ATVS playing LOUD technopop.. It's not very restful and there are a few striking buildings and church on the charming lavender lined plaza...one thing of note is that the inhabitants seem rather peevish and sullen as it must indeed be tedious to live there...you would be hard pressed to find anything real useful like aspirin or paper towels... actually the best thing is probably to stay in the much better hotels in Tesqui and day trip over ..I spent 3 nights and was very...

No existe.

Bernal is a lovely village, worth the day trip from Queretero (by bus using the Flecha Amarilla line). Bernal is picturesque with plenty of character. However, as a tourist destination it seems to have lost much authenticity, so be prepared for a dozen or so tour guides offering their services, shops with tacky crafts, and somewhat overpriced local cheeses. We skipped all of this and hiked up to the Peña, at least as far as we were allowed… probably would have passed on this as views aren’t particularly interesting. The gorditas were...

Bernal is an old, colorful colonial village in the Mexican state of Queretaro. It was founded in 1642 by Spanish soldier Alonso Cabrera. The towns main attraction is the giant Pena de Bernal monolith, yet I found the brightly painted village more charming than the climb up the mountain. There are plenty of great cafés, restaurants, and bakeries to fill your appetite. You can fill your shopping bags with silver jewelry, gems, herbs, mexican chocolate, paintings, artwork, and plenty of souvenirs. It's a great place to unwind for a few days.
