RUN FROM THIS Place!!!
Edit** This is NOT Mercado 28. This place impersonates Mercado 28. There is no food, this is just one big building. Mercado has different vendors, restaurants, and businesses. DO NOT confuse the two! Most of the positive reviews below are for Mercado 28 and not this place.
I wish I could give this place negative stars! Stay away from the jewelry department, it is a total scam. They lie about what you are buying and then they agree to a price but you will pay more than that when your bill arrives.
Their ‘tourmaline’ is just color changing glass. Insanely over priced glass!!! and I’m pretty sure the silver is just plated. Their $2,000 rings are just cheap costume jewelry all dressed up.
The tequila tasting ended uncomfortable …. If you don’t want to spend $250 on a bottle you are treated badly. When you don’t want to drop $500 on tequila they get all grumpy and don’t want to talk to you any more.
When you go to pay their conversion rate is much higher than the actual conversion rate which means you will pay way more in American dollars than you think you are or they say you will- they are cheating you.
I tried to get change for the bus and no one would help me.
Then best part about this place was the toilets. Just save yourself a ton of money and grief and pay the 7 pesos to go...
Read moreThis place was awful! They sold us a ring that was a fake and that we paid good money for. The moment we stepped off the bus, some guy who may have been the owner, got up in our face and pulled us into the store. We told him we just wanted to look around, instead he kept following us closely from behind. We went into the jewelry store there to have a look and ended up purchasing an opal ring. He told us it was a completely real opal ring and that the band was platinum silver. We paid $400 for it. I wish I had have done more research to know what to look for but it looked completely real. If in fact it was, He took it to "weigh it" and we think he may have used that chance to swap it out for a fake. After finishing our purchase, we walked out of the jewelry store to look through the rest of the market. The owner (or whoever he was) kept following and hounding us. It was very uncomfortable and frustrating. We are in the process of reporting them. Please never go to this place! I am very disappointed in them as they are complete cheats and fraudsters! Also, THIS IS NOT THE REAL MARKET 28. The real one is further on down the street and is MUCH bigger. I would leave a negative star if I could. It does not even deserve...
Read moreIf you want to avoid the sun's heat, shop in a shop with fans around to cool off but still get the exact same items all under one roof, Plaza 28 in Downtown Cancun is what you need. No need to bargain here because all are fixed priced items labelled on them. No need to carry cash as they accept credit cards and give you a receipt and complete invoice with Tax ID number, so it is safe to shop here. This is a big roof that has jewellery, mexican made items, souvenirs, pharmacy, tequila and restaurant all in one. Folks here welcome you as you enter and al though they talk to keep you comfortable to shop, they aren't annoying as people say in the other markets like Mercado 28 or the Flea market(where you do everything on your own from bargaining to finding shops). So, if you like fixed prices, hassle-free shopping, air-conditioned shopping, this is the place...
