Overall, we had an excellent stay. As stated in other reviews, this is not a brand-new hotel; however, that is part of the charm of the place. Our room was very clean, the wifi was fast, and we had plenty of hot water. We didn't use the television, so I can't comment there.
From check-in to check-out the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed the hotel breakfast (additional cost) much more than the nearby Cafe Andrade, so I would just get breakfast from the hotel instead of trying to find another place to eat. They also offer reasonably-priced laundry service, which we used and were pleased with.
The hotel is not too far from Mercado 28, La casa de la cultura, and the planetarium. We used the hotel as a jumping off point for day trips to Isla Mujeres and Chichen Itza, which I think worked out quite well.
To get to the hotel, I would recommend getting the ADO shuttle from the airport to their downtown Cancun station, which costs about 5 USD. When you get to the bus station, do not get the taxis immediately outside the station, which cost about 4 times more than a local taxi. Instead, walk a couple of blocks and hail a taxi, or, if you want a little exercise, just spend 15 minutes walking to the hotel.
If you are planning on renting a car, I would recommend going to Etytan car rental, which is about a five minute walk from the ADO station and a ten minute walk from Girasoles. The prices and reasonable, and we didn't experience any surprise charges or bait-and-switch tactics, like we did at the Cancun Airport car rental center.
So if you want a nice, clean, charming downtown hotel, I would highly recommend...
Read moreWe were looking for a hotel in Cancun, for one night, at the end of our holiday in Mexico, before catching our flight. Browsing the Booking.com site, it showed us a last minute ‘deal’, a double room from $117 for $30, with free wifi and parking. The review was great, 8.3, and we decided to book it immediately. After paying and entering the room, we were shocked. How this place can be rated 8.3? It is far the worse accommodation we stayed in Mexico. Not even the motels in the middle of nowhere in US are that bad. I don’t know if we were given a bad room, or in an old part of the hotel, but the reviews do not match what we experienced at all. ||The hotel is falling apart. Everything is old, stained and smelly. Very poor maintenance to walls, furniture and doors. ||While I showered a spider jumped on my back, scaring me more than causing harm. But if you have problems with spiders, be aware. ||During our vacation in Mexico we stayed in many villas, suites, B&Bs and hotels for prices from $30-$45 per day, simple and comfy places, and all were 200% better than this accommodation (cannot call it a hotel). What a disappointment. ||Pros: Wifi is good; good ceiling fan (however seems quite unstable), walking distance from Walmart||Cons: parking is on the streets and not that protected; fridge is old and smelly; bed uncomfortable, one awful pillow, stained bed cover; no lift; not nice area; old AC; no bedside lamp (or light switch); shower with poor water pressure. Stink of cigaret at reception/entrance hall; noisy fridge; very loud guests, slamming...
Read moreThis is sheer value for money. The staff is great and the rooms are super clean. I will be honest and highlight things one needs to be aware of Downtown convenience - the hotel is in downtown and so is very close to restaurants - Carls Jr, Burger King, Dominos, and some great local ones such as 100 percent natural, etc. Groceries are close by - pharmacies, super market (Chedraui), Oxxo (Convenience stores) are 3-10 minutes by walk. Uber makes things really easy - dont take taxis and try to rely on Uber. Uber currently does not pickup from airport and only does the drop off to airport. Use a well rated service for pickup. For all other destinations in Hotel zone and around downtown Uber works wonderful. The hotel does not have any policies around outside food so you can just order on Uber eats and live comfortably. The staff goes the extra mile - Edgar, Ricardo, went beyond and above. Cleaning staff really is amazing. Breakfast is awesome.
Cons There is construction that stops during the evening and resumes in the morning. Light sleepers be aware. There is no accessibility due to no elevators. So that is a pain. Rooms are dated but clean. Shower is not that great but the water is always ok for a bath if you don't mind...
