I was quite disappointed as all the information was just in Spanish and having to read so much in a language that I'm still learning is heavy going. A bit poor to read a sign just before leaving the exit of the museum which stated that you can ask for an audio guide or use a qr code to read the information in English. On entering, the man at the kiosk, wasn't friendly. Was under the impression that I was foreign and ushered me to move on and quickly as I was still trying to collect the money up from my change of the $65 mexican entrance fee. There was no queue or people behind me. I spoke to him in Spanish, but he made no attempt to advise me about the audio phone or about the code, even though he knew that my first language is not Spanish. The money I paid to enter is...

There are a few interesting things to see inside of this very beautiful building, but the collection is quite small and really only the first floor is related to the Mayan culture. The second floor is family history of the house and rather boring. The QR codes for English take you to a broken link in the Google Drive. Staff were unfriendly, on their phones, or just plain sleeping. They won’t let you keep your bag with you or take water, despite the excessive heat. There are much better museums to explore in Cozumel and Valladolid. Overall, it took about an hour and mostly because there’s a lot of reading/translating large...

What a gem to find along Paseo de Montejo. Unassuming given that it is inside a gorgeous 2 storey mansion. There is no English audio although they provide a PDF download for your mobile device. There is an English guide book if you leave ID at the entrance desk.

The first floor was a varied selection of Mayan exhibits. Truly impressive and in varying conditions. The second floor displays the equipment and covers the important role Merida played in historical aerial photography.

Rooms full of high resolution prints of various cities and towns are on display. It was incredible to see how everything has developed over...

What a great museum to visit, especially if you'll be going to Ek Balam and/or Palenque archeological zones. They have done a great job of treating those places in the context of the time they existed and within our modern context. In many places in the world, the ruins would be destroyed in favor of hanging up the most beautiful parts in a museum somewhere. This museum has used preservation and exhibition models to educate the audience. For the folks who prefer English, all of the exhibits are translated and included in downloads of Pdf files provided from QR code at the entrance, so you can follow along.

Visited this museum late January 2025. Unfortunately the front of the museum is under restoration ( fortunate for the future though), so the front entrance is closed on Paseo de Montejo. Access is on Calle 58. $100 pesos entry per person. There are very nice Mayan exhibits and displays on the first level. Then Spanish colonial history on the 2nd level. Overall really it is a very small space. Maybe half the signage is Spanish and English, otherwise all Spanish. Maybe it’ll be better once the building is reopened.
